Can everyone stop with the aging vet crap. The isles went out and got a really good player in Ladd. This is about now. Not 5 years from now.
What some fail to realize is that Ladd is an asset that was signed without giving up anything. The isles can trade him at a deadline if need be and a cup team will gladly take him for the run. Great signing - kindlyrick
I disagree, his term is to long for any team to deal for him at a deadline outside of his last year, MAYBE 2nd to last year. I think it's a good signing for you guys with that being said, but only for the first 2-4 years. Those last 3-4 are going to be tough and you will likely end up buying him out. Not trying to rain on your parade just giving you my opinion from the outside looking in. |

They had to give the term. He doesnt want to move his family around every other year.
Im fine with the term. At 5.5 aav we can worry about it later. Right now we got a gritty left wing we needed.
Edit: team is in win now and couldnt afford to not sign a big free agent. If they have to buy him out in 5 years who cares |

Exactly, we all know there's an element of risk with signing these UFAs. The bad news is teams are forced to overpay in terms of salary or term or both. (In the case of Ladd, the overpay is in term.) The good news is teams are NOT forced to give up assets to acquire them. So the Islander prospect pool is intact, as are future draft picks. Now if the Islanders are able to swing a trade for a 1st line winger for JT, they are in a position to give up picks and/or prospects. |

I think they both may. It's likely Tavares, Nelson, Strome, Zeeker. Maybe they expect Zeeker to become a third liner and will add a depth center guy in, thus keeping Strome at wing, but I kinda get that feeling. This is put up or shut up year for Stromer
Overall, I'm okay with what's happened here. With Okposo, we lose a guy who frustrated the hell out of us. Great shot release, but little else to his game. We all know how weak he was on the puck and on his skates. His passing wasn't that good and his awareness seemed poor. On occasion the kid ripped a wrister that made you realize just how could he could have been if maybe he polished the rest of his game up a bit...I know he was considered a character guy, but I kinda wonder if he wasn't one of those Country Club kinda guys too. Ladd was a consistent 20-29 goal guy with the Jets. With more skill around him, i think it's reasonable to expect that he'll get 25-33 goals here, maybe more if paired with JT. Most importante, he's a big guy with skill...a combination the Isles really lacked in round 2.
Chimera is a tough guy who adds much more grit than Nielsen ever did. Fransy was cool and calm with the puck and definitely had finesse skill...but he was S A W F T..SOFT! The guy avoided contact, disappeared in gritty games and to me was a bit overvalued by us because he was a decent player that came out of an era that we had virtually none.
As for Martin, I really hate this loss, but we've got a boat load of talent coming up that will add much more offense to this team in his absence. I do wonder who is going to 'send messages' with him gone now though..... - keaner17

Your entire post is opinion which you're entitled to. But, before you start dissecting this contract or any for that matter let the ink dry. For phuck sakes, the guy is a good signing anyway you slice it. |

100% correct. Great signing. Now onto the right side.....I'm really hoping it's not PA Parentheau. |

Hope not, too. Zipay in today's Newsday says PAP is one of the remaining UFAs that the Rags are considering. |

Not sure I'm on board with this, unless this clears the way to deal Nelson or strome for an impact forward (obviously would be us adding to a deal) |

I'm good with it as long as he's not on the top line. It's time to get JT a real RW. If, like you said, it's a placeholder in a Strome/Brock trade, there's no harm. He scored 20 last year and they got him for only 1.25, so there's no risk. |

We can only hope this is just a depth signing. This season's Steve Bernier. |

take out Pulock and give them a pick or another defenseman and I say do it...maybe PA is taking Nelson's spot |

Maybe, but right now Nelson is slated to be the 2C, whereas PAP is a winger. |

I got a feeling this is "the move". Garth not wanting to part with his prospects again. PA should not SNIFF the top line if you're serious about winning. And frankly, Tavares deserves better at this point. Quit dumpster diving. |

Nelson's a Center.... So, trading away a 25 goal scorer, a D prospect and MDC/Pick for one player but Hamonic is untouchable? Would be Garth's dumbest fcuking move aside of Grabo contract. How about you fix THAT $5M problem first? |
