Definitely a risk... - JohnScammo
No question. Still glad the Isles signed Ladd. This is the Free Agent game and you have to play it. Isles usually show good control. They now need to turn to trades. |

Have to make the most out of the players you draft and control their salaries so you can take the shot on the ufas that usually don't live up to the dollars for at least part of the term. Really depends on how close to a cup you think you are or how much leash you have left as a gm. Win now, let the next guy clean up your mess... |

Ladd is a good signing but he's turning 31 in Dec and a 7 year contract brings him to 38. 5.5 isn't terrible though expect for maybe the last 2-3 years but the cap should be higher by then so it won't be as bad for u guys. Hasn't gone over 25 goals since 2011 but that could easily change playing with JT. |

he did score 25 last year. I'm not expecting him to light it up with 30+, but 25 goals and 20-25 assists playing with JT is a reasonable expectation if he's healthy. Last few years might be bad ones, but such is ufa day.

Can everyone stop with the aging vet crap. The isles went out and got a really good player in Ladd. This is about now. Not 5 years from now.
What some fail to realize is that Ladd is an asset that was signed without giving up anything. The isles can trade him at a deadline if need be and a cup team will gladly take him for the run. Great signing |

All this team needa to do is get another top 6 forward and i think they are set. They still need to see about halak and bailey..i dont mind keeping kulimen. He kills penalties well and would probably cost a high pick to dump him on a team

if we can make a trade for a top six forward without using up all of our available cap space my first choice would be to keep halak and greiss. I'm just not sure how I feel about Greiss & Berube. |

I guess Greiss earned the shot last season but I also have my reservations with him as our #1 and Berube as our back up. Berube is completely unproven and he's going to need to play a lot of games next season. As far as the forward is concerned we still need a top line player for Tavares along with a bounce back season from Strome to have any kind of success next season.
I like both Chimera and Ladd they'll add a dimension that this team was lacking but he has got to get that top line guy still imo. |

FYI, we structured it that way because buyout caphits are affected by salary not bonuses. So buyout caphit is calculated at $1mill caphit |

Scored more goals than Okposo and brings a much better element to the team than okposo ever did or could. I'll take Ladd over him any day if we have to deal with 2/3 yrs of a bad contract so be it it's part of the free agent game. |

If Snow is not able to acquire a top line guy by trade, I wouldn't mind filling out the depth with whats left in FA bc of giving up no assets and just $$$.
Hudler/Verbata/Fleischman would be good cheap additions to add..... |

So what can Leaf fans expect from Martin? - BetterCallSaul
I was a big Martin fan you guys will love him great team mate and player for what he does. I would've liked him at 2.5 million I think that's a pretty good FA signing for the Leafs. I think he'll be a good player for a young, developing team. |

I suspect that's exactly what he'll do but you have to think (or I'd like to think I should say) he's on the phone with Chiarelli trying to pry Eberle out of edmonton or maybe even Yak (yes I'd take a chance on him). Yeah wed have to lose a contract but I'm hoping he is at the very least doing his due diligence on something along these lines. |

See the ''O-dog'' Jeff O'Neil ranked the Isles as the losers of the day on TSN. Said Ladd and Chimera should have been added to the team that still had KO , Frans and Martin on it, then it would be a success...feels we lost too much core. |

I read it's $1M/yr salary and declining bonuses each year:
Think it breaksdown something like $8M/$7M/$6M/$5M/$4M/$4M/$4M. - jmo16
It benefits both player and team structuring the deal this way. If there's a lock out Ladd would still receive their signing bonuses. If Isles decide to buy out Ladd it would only cost them 2/3 of remaining salary over 2X yrs left. So about $333K a year Cap Hit being that's it's only 1Mill in salary. So he better preform or he's gone.
All this years long term have been structured this way.. Ladd, KO, Lucic, Eriksson... Even Boychuk's last 2 years are mostly Bonuses
Make's the buy out easier |

I like Yak, and the kid would benefit with a change of scenery. I also do believe Snow can shed Bailey/and or Kulimen's contract but think he's holding on bc of the expansion draft and/or bc of value w/term left. I also think MDC is a trade chip for a young skilled guy ...... |

These so-called analyst's don't know nothing, I understand they're former players but doesn't mean they know better. U don't keep the same players who haven't helped succeed greater than expected, so then u try a different method/plan, something called logic..... |

If the salary cap projects to continue going up, Boychuk & Ladd wouldn't hinder as much, plus if no other bad contracts accumulate, team will be fine..... We shall see |

I actually really like Ladd in NY. The contract is long but it will be moveable at some point. That is why all these deals were front loaded and bonus heavy. Look at the Coyotes...they have Pronger and Datsyuk on their team.
I am REALLY happy we got Martin. He was the one guy I signaled out on the list that I wanted. Term and money are fine. He shouldn't feel pressure to do anything more than what he did for you guys. We now have Komarov and Martin smashing people through the boards 2 out of every 4 shifts. |

Oneil is a die hard leafs fan. He runs the radio shows and even fist pumped on air when we won the lotto. He tends to be bias towards the leafs and not so much towards others. Don't take it personal :p |

Martin is a solid player and good person, I wish him the best of luck in TOR but isles needed more players that are versatile to do other things besides lead the league in "hits"... I'll be rooting & watching him still ... |
