I wouldn't have minded franz back. I do agree we need one more top six forward. This is the best ufa start we've had in what....10 years? 20? I'm comfortable with what happened provided we do add one more top six to the roster
- Isles_since_6

I agree with what you, NYI44 and nyisles7 posted. It was a good start but they need to do a little more. I'm just happy to see some grit/snarl. I've been complaining about that for years.

If they signed Nielsen for 5 million plus, it means you have to play him. His absence now means Strome has to step up because he gets his ice time.

Ladd and Chimera bring a lot of playoff experience.

For more spending, d depth is always an asset.

Brian Strait gone....in terms of points gained and blown at the end of the year, that's probably a break even with Frans leaving. Strait took a penalty practically every night with less than five minutes left in a one goal game, due to his inability to skate at a NHL level. Good riddance....

Hello my American friends, happy almost July 4th.

Matt Martin? Sounding like one of those team guy, grinder, hitting, forecheck type. Not much scoring upside. Sound about right?

Yup, and he'll even drop the gloves, though he's not the toughest guy in the NHL. Scored 10 goals for us last season, but will be tough to repeat that feat.

You'll like him, and we'll miss him, though Chimera is a good trade off. The guy plays for what's on the front of the sweater. We just didn't have that kind of money for his production/slot in the lineup- for you, it'll beat the crap out of what you were probably wasting on Grabner.

He's a good 4th line player, you'll see effort every shift. He throws a lot of hits but most of them are after the play so the number is a little deceiving. He'll drop the gloves and can handle himself well but he didn't do it as much last year. He also does a lot of charity work if that type of thing means anything to you. Does that help?

Why would they let him work the draft and free agency to fire him in the summer?
- Isles_since_6

Due to him replacing 55 goals with 35. We'll see but I think you're giving him a longer leash than anyone. So far this is a half arsed attempt at a very important offseason and his draft was a clown show. I for one don't know the new owners well enough to assume they'll allow this to continue maybe you do? They may they may not but I certainly don't know one way or the other but by the sound of your post I guess you do? Or maybe you think this an adequate replacement for what we let walk as compared to what we got?

Matt is a very nice addition for Leafs. Good heart and soul guy. Chimera with his skating and overall talent is a better fit for the Isles.

Agree, that said we are 1 trade away for a top 6 winger for JT from having a nice little start to the off season. These guys are the kind of guys that will make teammates accountable. unlike KO.
- Nolanders

Still more work to do and hopefully an impact winger. I'm not celebrating yet, but it is a nice start and better work in free agency than the Isles have done in a long while.

This does not shock me. They are not going to rip on their own guys and especially now during FA season. I'm going to give Ledecky and Malkin a honeymoon period. If things do not go well and they do nothing then it's different.

Ladd is going to be a 2nd line maybe first line guy and an upgrade over ko and Chimera is an upgrade as well. Right now we are weaker from Frans leaving but garth only needs to make one trade to get a top line winger, can he is the million dollar question but he has the prospects a 1st next year and a roster player if need be.

Yep Garth Snow just has to find a top line winger. (at that point he'll make a lateral move and that's coming from a guy that's no fan of okposo). Martin, Nielsen, and okposo were replaced by chimera and Ladd numbers don't quite add up
Well I guess not trading Hamonic for Hall was a good move. Thank God snow will be gone by the end of the season with the rest of his new England arse clowns

Yes, they don't have to rip them, but they don't have to endorse them either. If they wanted them gone they would have put out a generic statement. I read it as we are stuck with Snow and his moron buddy Crappy for the season. Maybe I'm being pessimistic.

Wait until they figure out WHY Brian Strait was costing us all those points, when Capuano finds another one of his favorite piles of AHL doggie doo to put in the lineup every night, while one of our rookies sits in the seats.

Since Ledecky and Malkin bought into the team, they went from having the 5th overall pick to a first round out, then second round out. I'm not saying I'm a Cappy or Garth supporter at all, but it's not surprising to see the new owners endorse them for now.
