Bottom pair is wee expensive no? Wouldn't Hedman/Karlsson be a cheaper yet suitable alternative?

You're moody. Buck up. We're a better team today. Lucic + Larsson > Hall
- Xaos22

I'm certainly on your side of the "oilers needed to get better" argument.

but matts not wrong that at face value we lost the trade. maybe even by the end of this season thatll have changed. but right now-its not equal value.

thing is, doesn't look like there was much else out there.
shero said he had no interest in nuge or ebs. and wouldntve dealt Larsson for anybody but hall.

the alternative wasn't a better player or less from us.
It was stand pat and potentially go into another season without the piece we needed most (and weve seen how well that's worked for 6 years)
or
trade hall for larsson

I would prefer 5 years but I can accept 7. Jenny hockey isn't gonna like playing against him for those 7 years though I'll tell you that much.
- Xaos22

It's not like you have a choice. If the oilers don't give him term some other team will.

Long time no see everyone.

I've pretty much packed it in for hockey message board activity as you can imagine, but something so cataclysmicly foolish just happened I figured I'd pop back in to deliver a very important message:

"LOL oilers."

- Morris

Nice to see you Morris. Say, while you're here...would you mind banning a couple Dozen douchebags?

I see nothing in any of his numbers or history in the NHL that suggests Larsson>Demers
- Matt_Henderson

You're being way overly negative. Listen to the Devils fans, or at least the Flyers and Ranger fans that have seen a lot of Larsson. You overpaid, but you picked up a very good, young NHL defenseman.

Losing Hall was not great, but saying that we needed to get Defence and the GMS around the league have the oilers over a barrel and can ask for anything.

Its done time to look at today and see what we can do.

Do they end up with Lucic and maybe Demers

That would make the Oilers look better and harder to play against.

- Danjo26

Interesting GM philosophy argument.

Willis says the Oilers would have actually been better paying the huge price for Subban and keeping Hall.

But not better than Hall+Lucic+Demers
- Matt_Henderson

Demers is gonna get way too much money for what he brings to the table. Give it time. Klefbom-Larsson is gonna be great top pairing for us on the cheap for a very long time

Are you comparing Demers #'s in Dallas last year with Larsson's #'s in Jersey?

Do you perhaps agree that such #'s could be a little skewed when one player played for an elite pucking moving offence driven squad while the other played on a non playoff/lowest scoring squad in the league?

We lost the trade but it was a necessary evil I guess. This trade will make us a better team in the longrun though I think. I sure hope we're not done though.

Willis was just playing devil's advocate to the piece Staples wrote. But Willis is by far the best writer covering the Oilers.

I still do not buy this justification of replacing Hall with Larsson and Lucic. It's awful anyway I look at it.

I hope I can look back in two years and Larsson is a stud but I have trouble seeing that.

Larsson with actual pp time and playing with forwards who can actually score should hit 40points at minimum. He was used as a defensive player by new jersey cause thats all they do.Hall wont see 75 points ever again in new jersey.
I like the trade as chiarelli is finally building a team not just a collection of pond hockey players.

are you basing this on prime years vs larssons first few development years???

based on last years deployment, ability to handle brutal qoc at 23, pedigree, etc etc

sucks we lost hall, but this is a silly statement

It'd be interesting to see how good the oilers could get in a year by overpaying on vets today.

Put lipstick on a pig for a 6th seed and a 1st-round exit. I don't care. We're already through the looking glass people

If we get Lucic, sign Connelly (rumoured) and parlayed RNH into Barrie, how do you see the d pairings and line combos playing out ? and is it a playoff team ?

Honest question, if the offseason is:

Puljujarvi, Larsson and Lucic in, with a healthy McDavid and Hall out, is that not an improved team?

I won't believe it until I see it with Larsson. Other players like Fayne have looked eerily similar playing in NJ's system along side Greene.
And Hall will still be an elite scorer no matter where he goes.

No he is not. If we give him Sekera money that will be a huge mistake.
