Bozak will and can be traded for sure, Lupul - not so much. Leafs legal team will have lots of work this year between Cowen and Lupul. The move that Cowen pulled was pure BS - winsix
I really do not understand why everyone is up in arms about Cowen...
We don't need the cap credit this year, and not buying him out actually saves us cap space next year when we may actually need it. (Not likely, but maybe)
He can ride out the season on Robidas Island or in the AHL for all I care.
It really doesn't affect us at all.

Just in case we get Russell, is it worth mentioning that last year his goalies may as well have been cardboard cutouts?
From Calgary to Dallas, absolute sieves in net. If you use his 14-15 numbers, when he was actually getting competent net minding, do they look better?
I haven't looked, personally, but you have to think there's a reason he played 25+ mins per night.
Maybe not worth a 5x5, but I don't think he's absolute garbage, is he? |

How many more goals than us did the Oilers score? - systemtool
True, but McDavid out scored our top guy in almost 1/2 the games
Plus they had Hall who had 20+ points
4 guys with more points than our top scorer and that's with McJesus out 1/2 the year.
Leafs looking better for sure, but Edm on paper look pretty freaking good - lost Hall but add Looch - Pul and Larsson
Not too shabby. |

what's his issue? I really don't know. Is it he's garbage? Often injured? Currently dealing with a big injury? I didn't know anything about him that much when we acquired him, but I won't lie if I said I wasn't excited. Because I saw a young, RHD who I thought needed a change. Is it his foot speed? What is it? |

yeah, I'm surprised too, even with the McDavid injury.. they still had a poop load of scoring ability . Surprisingly , they had 245 GA, we had 246.
but I think we'll be alright next year. Not saying we'll light it up, but Marner/Nylander/Matthews + a (hopefully) full year of JVR, Kadri will be better. Not a sure thing for the first 3 guys, but they will help. |

No we shouldn't - cap hit the same $5.25 million - Lou needs to get out the weed whacker or a can of weed be gone. - winsix
If we can trade him, great. But I don't want him bought out. Buyouts screw the cap for years. just let him play out the contract the next two years and then his cap hit is completely gone and we can start fresh in a few years when we are (hopefully) ready to compete.

You just know that next year we will be looking for affordable experienced wingers with scoring ability to play with our young up and coming centers ( then pay 6+) |

His hip is (frank)ed and he is one of those shut down defenders who isn't that great at shutting people down after the injuries.

Good news is, in 2018, our only UFA's are Bozak, Lupul, JVR, Komarov. Some key RFA's include: Nylander, Sosh, and Rychel. I can only assume if they aren't traded (JVR, Bozak), all will not be resigned in 2018 (unless JVR/Komarov are signed before then) because they're the only two I'd consider bringing back from those 4.
edit: we're also gonna have a (frank)ing ton of cap space next year because we're not resigning any of our UFA's in 2017 |

Stamkos signs with a contender, allows the team to be kept together. How does that come off foolish? - burn
Gotta give it Stamkos, he trolled the Leafs fans for a year and it was glorious. You just gotta Laff it up. |

schenn is a better 3rd pairing d-man.
5x5 is crazy.
2x1.75 seems more appropriate to his skill set

Also, Leafs management is terrible. How can they not have added a top notch D man? Seriously. I don't care if none were available via FA. Couldn't big bad Shanny Lou just call up a team and scare them into making one an FA? Cowards. |

So then.... We trade JVR for Dumba now ( b4 his value drops ) and Komagod can re- sign for same $ |

I think if we don't trade JVR, we better resign him and not let him walk for nothing..that's if he's still in the plans for the future, which I'm 50/50 on. If not, yeah, trade him for a dman.. Komarov I'd keep, sure. 3M ain't bad for him. But he may ask for a little raise. (since he'd hit the open market) |

What you are saying is probably accurate, but nobody likes a cockroach and Cowen is certainly that. Leafs were honest and upfront with him after he was acquired in the trade. He was told not to practice and stay home and he would be bought out this year. They put him on waivers and he develops a bullshhit injury to avoid being bought out to squeeze more money that he has not earned. He's a cockroach.
