I think the point is if you don't get value don't make the trade.

Again, it's like trading Marner for Andersson and shrugging your shoulders and saying well if we could have gotten more we would have. But since we couldn't we made the trade anyways.

I'm not sure that RNH would have gotten it done. Devils needed a goal scorer. I think most of the appeal to NJ was to have a winger capable of consistently scoring to put next to Henrique.

I agree with you on Marner, I would have probably traded JVR for Larsson - based on only 2 years of control left, but both NJ and Montreal balked at RNH and Eberle - some think they are not worth what they are being paid. Hall became expendable - in Oiler's eyes when Puljajarvi fell into their laps.

9 million dollar hit, and they are going to have very pricey RFAs over the next few years may have gone into that thinking.
