sometimes its not what you say, its how and where you say it - grim1911
Well he's on the ice in a heated moment...if he said the "***" word...meh.
Obviously you don't want him doing this every shift but let's not hang the guy for it. |

Hall>Kessel tho..
And the Leafs just needed to move that contract.. Edmonton needed defence, but overpaid for it. |

I think the most damning thing about the Candiens happened yesterday when their GM essentially said "I signed Radulov because no one else wanted to come here, what do you want from me." - Mr.Bobby
1yr deal, not too bad...could have signed 1 of those other guys a (frank)ed himself down the road.

Well Edmonton gave up 2.95 goals per game last year, if a healthy Klefbom and Larsson can get that team down to anywhere near league average, would it be worht the move? - Mr.Bobby
Here's the thing. You don't bring in a young dman and expect him to turn your teams defensive game around. This kid is going to have wayyyy more pressure in him than he deserves and probably can handle.
You don't fix a teams defensive problems by adding 1 dman. Let alone one dman who isn't an elite Norris winner. It's like those times we thought Komi and Phaneuf would fix our teams defensive short comings.
One guy changes nothing. If you want to improve your teams defensive play find a great coach and expect the results to come from a concerted effort by the entire team. While the Leafs are still not a good or great defensive team they were probably better defensively this year than any time the last decade. Because of coaching and a team commitment to the philosophy of playing both ends of the ice.
The other factor here is goaltending. Cam Talbot? Yea..good luck with that. But they have Larsson now! |

It could be a good signing...
But it could also be bad.. I think MTL is a tinderbox right now. Any one little thing could trigger a chain reaction of destruction.. If one of Price, Weber, Patches, or Radulov get hurt they'll struggle. The coach will be fired. They'll go on a losing streak. |

Time will tell, as I said every GM had PC by the short and curlies...he was overpaying regardless.

Of course they should have done better. Hall is younger cheaper and better than Kessel. |

Except it's him plus a few other important pieces that were injured last year.
I think Edm now makes a playoff appearance.

That's like saying the Leafs need a goalie badly. So it's okay if they trade Marner for Andersson. |

Edmonton needed someone who can play defense.
The only defender to have played 1,000 minutes last year and have a lower goals against per 60 was Stralman (1.29) to Larssons (1.35).
Stralman had 34 points, but 12 were on the PP (meaning he had exactly 2 more even strength points than Larsson).
Yet Stralman who is 6 years older is a legit defender, and Larsson is dog poop.
I think a lot of people are going to be very surprised at just how good Larsson is. - Mr.Bobby
First of all, youre cherry picking advanced stats. his other advanced stats are not as impressive.
Second, NJ has Cory Schneider in net, that may factor in to a lower goals per 60.
I actually like larsson and agree the deal isn't as lopsided as some people think. But it is still lopsided.

They would still have had all those important injured guys even of they didn't trade Hall. Again Larsson will do nothing on his own. They need a team effort before and after trading Hall. |

Not by much...Kessels shot release>Halls IMO
Hall better at defence ( I would hope )
Pretty close in points the last few years...

They needed D and signed Lucic and drafted Pulurjarvi.
I don't know, I don't mind the trade at the moment...time will tell.
They could afford to take a chance trading Hall IMO |

I used that stat because I'm hoping Edmonton brought Larsson in to help prevent goals.
Also the defender I compared him to has Bishop behind him, so there's that. |

So the top two rated defenseman in the one stat you cherry picked both had an All Star goalie behind them.
Hmm...
