Agreed. Which is bizarre that bergevin demands a ridiculous package of youth from one organization, and a replacement blueliner who as good as he is, just isn't as good as subban, from the other. Rebuild on the one phone call, continue whatever the hell it is you are doing now on the other.
Why wouldn't bergevin go for Larsson plus from NJ? Why would chiarelli settle on Hall larsson without demanding a pick or prospect or even another young roster player back? I just can't believe that either team couldn't do far better than what they got in the end. - joel878
I find it hard to believe as well. Trust me, I'm not a fan of PC. When he traded Seguin for what he did, reports came out that 80% of the GM's had no idea he was available. I wonder if he dangled Hall to enough GM's? Having said that, how many RHD that have already proven able to handle top pair minutes against top comp, are under 27 or 28, have a decent contract, etc were available anyway? |

Enjoy Lucic as his body breaks down and your new #3 dman (on a contender, def #1 on oilers). - daeth
Thanks I will enjoy.

Hate coming from guys who would previously laugh at the Oilers for not having guts to trade a big player to fill a team need. - robin_steele264
Problem is... every other teams GM knew everyone On Edmonton was on the trading block except Mcdavid. New Jersey was just smart enough to ask for Edmonton's 2nd best player....and to their shock and amazement Edmonton agreed |

It wasn't a Cascade effect...the only reason hall was dangled as trade bait....was the Edmonton Gm had the knowledge of a signed Milan Lucic in his pocket already. - iLive4theLeafs
Which shouldn't even be a thing. It's not like we draft matthews and suddenly nylander is expendable. Bad GM's make those moves.
Signing lucic should never make your 24 year old 80 point former first overall winger expendable, and even if it does, it better be because you are addressing a need AND getting the absolute moon for him. |

Unfortunately I just found out he's only a #3 dman.

Why all the negativity about the Martin signing? 2.5 mill for 4 years for a good role player whose grit is needed on the team? Better contract than Shaw, Lucic or Okposo. I know those players have more skill but can't wait to see where those players games will be halfway through their 6 or 7 year deals. And you can always trade a guy like Martin at the trade deadline to a contender looking for grit and size.
I like what the Leafs did today which is pretty well nothing. Keep the course. Have cap space available to take advantage of team in cap hell and stick to the Shanaplan. Nothing wrong with another top 3 or 5 pick. |

I'd imagine Taylor Hall would be enough to land Shattenkirk, which in my opinion is better than Larsson. Also, would probably be pretty damned close to landing PK Subban, in terms of value. |

Jakob Trouba was available.....that trade could have happened, with Winnipeg. I think that he's just as good, if not better. Why did they not approach the Jets?

I was surprised as well. But people seem to think the Habs deal ( PK for Draisaitl, the 4th OA, and Darnell Nurse) was a better deal. No thanks. We're still building, sad to say, I'm glad we didn't gut 2/3 of our future for him. - Jeropotato
Obviously don't like the Hall trade. Hate the Lucic term and dollars.
The Oilers will be a significantly better team next year, and they have to start winning sometime to start turning the ship around. So, overall, it ain't so bad. |

Like I've said before, the Hall trade could be terrible and the Oilers could still be good, they have forward talent to burn. I thought Hall would be in the vault with McD though, thought those two were the Toews/Kane Crosby/Malkin etc. core for the Oilers.
Chia's record with Taylor and Tyler now is pretty crazy.
I like the Oilers, as a bandwagon Oilers fan this trade pisses me off. Even my other conference team does crazy, stupid poop. |

Agreed! Martin will give the Leafs sandpaper, that'll help shield the kids, when other teams take liberties. He's not a great fighter, but can throw the body. He is what he is....a 3rd or 4th line player.

I think if we are to pick the nhl's worst GM over the last couple of weeks, it is far and away bergevin. Even with what chiarelli has pulled, as a combined effort, bergevin is still the worst. Thay franchise is an absolute circus now because of him, and if I were a hab fan, id be terrified of what comes next. |
