Glad the Leafs stayed away from some of these contracts.
- Feeling Glucky?

Yep. And third year in a row where the Leafs have not tried to build the team on UFA day.

Hall wasn't soft. He was a bit outspoken and in the world of the NHL code speak, he didn't fit in......something like Subban. Why I say Lucic is a disaster contract, is the way he's played all of his life. It's hard on the body and his age is approaching 30 and 7 years is ridiculous. Looking at the other Oilers defensemen, I just don't see a huge improvement there.
- PrinceLH

Are you familiar with the other Oilers D-Men?

Lucic just turned 28 and is coming off one of his better seasons. I don't think it's too bad of a signing really... Might sting a bit in the final years but there is always ways to move those contracts..

I'd rather have Larsson than Hall.

I don't get the hate of the deal at all.

- Bigzby

I sure as poop wouldn't....but someone had to go to get a top pair D man ( even one with warts). I guess RNH and Eberle don't have the trade value, and for that matter, neither did Hall.

I was surprised as well. But people seem to think the Habs deal ( PK for Draisaitl, the 4th OA, and Darnell Nurse) was a better deal. No thanks. We're still building, sad to say, I'm glad we didn't gut 2/3 of our future for him.
- Jeropotato

Agreed. Which is bizarre that bergevin demands a ridiculous package of youth from one organization, and a replacement blueliner who as good as he is, just isn't as good as subban, from the other. Rebuild on the one phone call, continue whatever the hell it is you are doing now on the other.

Why wouldn't bergevin go for Larsson plus from NJ? Why would chiarelli settle on Hall larsson without demanding a pick or prospect or even another young roster player back? I just can't believe that either team couldn't do far better than what they got in the end.

As long as they keep McDavid...they could trade every other slug on the team and they would still be better off than our leafs ...so really no need for a leafs fan to feel sorry for an Edmonton fan
- iLive4theLeafs

With all of the luck of the draw, they've totally ruined half of those high end prospects. RNH is shaping up like a young Tim Connolly. Often injured and out of the lineup. Yak was mishandled and is worth very little in a trade. Now Hall is shipped out of town. Hall is a 7.5/10 player and Larrson is a 5/10 player. Chirelli is a disaster. He's now traded both Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin. Not a good trading record.

I'm not saying that he's not a good hockey player, but he's not a Norris Trophy candidate. Taylor Hall is one of the top wingers in the game and it's just not an even trade. If there was a first or second thrown in or a top level prospect, then it would be fair. The reaction of losing Hall caused a cascade effect that ended up in signing the over-rated Milan Lucic to a ridiculous deal that will handcuff your salary cap for 7 years. No matter how well the press, management and fans try to spin this, it's a disaster.
- PrinceLH

It wasn't a Cascade effect...the only reason hall was dangled as trade bait....was the Edmonton Gm had the knowledge of a signed Milan Lucic in his pocket already.

Hate coming from guys who would previously laugh at the Oilers for not having guts to trade a big player to fill a team need.

I'm guessing you don't know enough about any of the players you mentioned to quantify your statement.

Habs have equal value for the next 2 years. After that, it's downhill. Habs have to make a run now, with Price, and then it ends. Radulov will sink them, however.

Hall is by far the best player mentioned here..

It was a bad trade.. And pretty bad signing.. Although I'm not a fan of the Martin signing either.

I totally agree about Chirelli being a GM that is out of touch with reality. The only reason he got a job so quickly is the fact he has a cup on his resume and Edmonton needed a GM that wasn't afraid to trade top players.
Well Edmonton be careful what you wish for. You got a gm that isn't afraid to trade away top players. Too bad most of latest big trades have been disasters for him.

Poor asset management is poor asset management. Trading Seguin and Hamilton for Kessel made Toronto a better team.

Enjoy Lucic as his body breaks down and your new #3 dman (on a contender, def #1 on oilers).
