I don't have an issue with Larson. Pretty good for a 23 yr old.

The worst that can happen is you go forward with your young elite first overall forward while larsson luke schenns himself.

Not trying to razz the Oilers fans, but I don't know what your GM is thinking out there. With all of those early first round picks, you still can't find the chemistry needed to be competitive. Why you would give up Hall and keep Yakapov is mind bending. New Jersey raped you, in that deal, and now management is overspending on Milan Clarkson. The Oilers are going to regret that deal, in about 1 year. I guess you can hope to buy him out, the next time the collective bargaining agreement comes to an end. It's a sad state of affairs and I really do feel for the fans out there.

Oh yeah. Well Devils fans and some of the more intelligent Rangers fans say Larson looked pretty good last season on the top pair, and that he's a better player than the general opinions of the HB mongers suggest.

I haven't seen a tonne of him. I know he struggled for a few years prior to last. I guess we will see. Too bad their weren't any better offers on the table , but I'm at least happy someone had the balls to try and correct the defence.

I don't think larsson is garbage. I would have just expected him to go for yak or even RNH, not Hall. I am blown away that a player like Taylor Hall would be traded and the return would be potential based.

I'm surprised Montreal wouldn't have wanted Taylor Hall over weber. I think it's clear the oilers would have paid more than just Hall for subban. But then again, Montreal's GM I'd a bumbling idiot who obviously believes the hole on the blueline would have been the one and only reason the habs didn't lift the cup next June.

The whole thing just seemed like a broken down discussion that ended with both GM trying to scorn the other. Both organizations should have their GM's heads on plates for that mess.

Lol...razzing Oilers fans is all you're trying to do.

Lucic has been a pretty Consistant 20+ goal scorer where as Clarkson had 1 single, solitary decent season as a scorer. Different class of player.

The Oilers can't get poop for Yak, that's why he's still here, not because they 'prefer' him over Hall.

We lost a trade, but we are desperate for D, and quite frankly, we have a lot of young forwards to pick up the slack.

And like you said, the Oilers couldn't find chemistry with current group, not enough to win at least, so they made changes.

Will they improve? Beats me. That's why I come to the Leafs thread, to ' ask the experts'.

I'm not saying that he's not a good hockey player, but he's not a Norris Trophy candidate. Taylor Hall is one of the top wingers in the game and it's just not an even trade. If there was a first or second thrown in or a top level prospect, then it would be fair. The reaction of losing Hall caused a cascade effect that ended up in signing the over-rated Milan Lucic to a ridiculous deal that will handcuff your salary cap for 7 years. No matter how well the press, management and fans try to spin this, it's a disaster.

I was surprised as well. But people seem to think the Habs deal ( PK for Draisaitl, the 4th OA, and Darnell Nurse) was a better deal. No thanks. We're still building, sad to say, I'm glad we didn't gut 2/3 of our future for him.

As long as they keep McDavid...they could trade every other slug on the team and they would still be better off than our leafs ...so really no need for a leafs fan to feel sorry for an Edmonton fan

Hall wasn't soft. He was a bit outspoken and in the world of the NHL code speak, he didn't fit in......something like Subban. Why I say Lucic is a disaster contract, is the way he's played all of his life. It's hard on the body and his age is approaching 30 and 7 years is ridiculous. Looking at the other Oilers defensemen, I just don't see a huge improvement there.
