Panik just needs to play above his contract. Toews and Hossa need to play better this season.
Oh well, its the way it goes in a cap world. Nothing last forever. I don't think the team is done. Still a long time before camp even starts. - TTtime
I don't either. Could be another growing pains year this time at fwd instead of on D with guys from RFD cycling in and out.
Anyway, the consensus among most here was they were a one and done team after 2010 and they've somehow won two more in spite of Bowman's incompetence and Q's stubbornness... |

Can't comment on the blog as I only found out about/joined the site in 2014. Though, the Hawks did not have the same Salary Commitments then that they do today. 72% of the cap in 7 players. Will be interesting to see how Stan Bowman makes it work. I KNOW they have one more cup in them, whether it is this year or 5 years from now is yet to be determined. |

Daigle had talent for days.
He just didn't want to play hockey anymore. Kind of hard to measure that.
idk. But tell me why Panik can't be it. Because the Leaf didn't want him? Tamps likes their other forwards better? Panik was a 2nd round pick for a reason. Talent and skill have never been an issue for him. Dedication, effort and defensive play was.
Tell me honestly. Did you see a player who didn't care? Plays balls out every time? Get better defensively?
Also. Show me any player in the Hawks system and out there right now that has the most similar attributes as a player as Saad?
Just remember. Sharp was traded for Matt (frank)ing Ellison. So mistakes are made all the time. - TTtime
Alain, I mean Alexandre Daigle played on the same line in junior with ... Eric Daze

Evander Kane or Richard Panik? - EnzoD
Panik shouldn't be playing in the top 6, but someone had to skate with 19 and 81. And sometimes there seems to be no logic in the way Q's blender works. |

Though Q has done some brilliant things that have helped win those 3 Cups. Q's fingerprints are squarely on all 3. However, whatever the (frank) has been going on with both Bowman and Q the last two years (11th hour Leddy trade, relying on no Ddepth a 2nd straight year, Kimo, another 11th hour Sharp trade and subsequent moves, the handling of Garbutt/Daley, the usage of Weise and Flash while Mashinter plays, the ghost of Rundlband, etc.) HAS to stop. |

Generalfanger saying campbell deal has a NMC. Shocker
When i think of stepan i think of the empty net in Dallas he missed that led to the game tying goal against. |

For the salary Soup got THIS IS the time to hand out a NTC, but Bowman gives them out while simultaneously giving huge salary and term. There IS A TIME to hand out an NTC, this is one of those times. Soupy left a couple million on the table, NONE of the other players on this team with an NTC did. |

I think so too and as long as 88, 19 and 2 are in their prime the window will be open.
They've always been up against the Cap but yes more money commited to fewer players. I still think they find a way to make it work but that's just the glass half full kinda guy I am. |

Evander Kane or Richard Panik? - EnzoD
Enzo, real fast, John McDonough chooses Richard Panik 8 days a week overEvander Kane, LA and the neighboring areas seem like the perfect fit, team and lifestyle that unfortunately young Mr.Kane seems tobe destined for. |

Lots of people completely disagree with you - NBA 2.6 BILLION per year from national TV; NHL about $500 million. - StLBravesFan
It's because basketball has a more diverse viewership where as hockey isn't really watched by minority viewers |

You're making my point - unless they get an F1 to play with Toews and Hossa - it would be more effective from an overall team success perspective to scrap the possession/cycle game that Q wants Toews and Hossa to play and go with a different style and lineup combination. Putting Kane and Panarin on separate lines can effectively make both top lines effective and arguably a better net gain than the combination of xx-19-81 + 72-15-88 was last season. - EbonyRaptor
I don't see an overall change in style of play...They should be able to have a stronger transition game with Campbell in the mix. That's where things broke down last year...Could turn the play from defense to offense as quickly as in the past. Passing wasn't nearly as good from the dmen out.
I do think the top 2 lines could be shuffled...Hossa could end up on the 3rd line.

Based on the way things are going, the Hawk roster for the 2020 season will be Toews, Kane and 21 guys you never heard of. |

In context literally half the team turned over from 2010 Cup win until puck drop in Oct.
Also....Bowman had a bout $5 mill to sign 7 players...

Didn't Byfuglien throw E. Kane's clothes in the shower because he showed up in a track suit as opposed to business attire?
I think Seabrook, Hossa, Hjalmarsson, Toews and Q would not stand for his attitude and mishaps either. But I guess you never know. That decision would have to come from McDonough himself. |

Yes, and it took 3 years to get back to the top of the mountain. However, the biggest difference between the summer of 2016 and the summer of 2010 is that the Core is 6 years older this time around. So, does Stan weather the storm and hope for the best/take a 2-3 year approach? Or does he take drastic action to give them a better chance to win it all this year? I'm not sure what the correct answer to that question is...thats why I buy the tickets and don't get paid to determine the roster. So, two questions for you Al:
1) What would you do/ in your opinion what shoud Stan do between now and Training Camp?
2) What do you expect/predict he will actually do? |

The support group should be better on this team than in 2010-2011.
Stan won't bust the core up until they fail significantly and probably not until age is a real issue.
I would have traded AA...Otherwise signing Campbell was a layup and he should help.
Bowman will look to add a couple of vets and hope for a pleasant surprise from Mott or Schmaltz or similar. Then he will hope the club stays close and he can figure a way to acquire a need or two at the deadline. |
