If the bread man does have the proverbial sophmore slump, you think that could alter the way team's (Bowman) would approach contract talks in terms of $$$$?
- chitownfan92

Certainly because it is a short sample... By that I mean they will try to leverage Panarin to take less but Bowman will still want to sign him longer term.

Not sure the opinion of a 4th line guy about Q really matters at all.
- JRoenick97

Q is about ready to comedown off the cross, some of these guys are starting to look less favorably at the situation here. Weiss is no Gretzky, but darn it, he is a solid 3rd line winger that right now we would love to have signed, see how we likeSteve Downie instead of Weiss or others because of Q's hardheadness and Bowman stupidity, unlike other Raspberry cocktail ers on this sight, this team is not a playoff team next year. So about January when they are already out of it see how restless the natives get with the front office causing Uncle John to institute "the Q and Bowman "watch along with holding Kane and Toews behinds to the fire.

In general contracts get longer so cap hits can be more easily absorbed...Especially these days with a stagnant cap.

If 72 has a similar or better season stat wise come March, be prepared. Hes gonna ask for big fat cash and will get it. So it will be the big trade come June to move him. Hawks can only offer what they can. If CC gets moved then they may have room to keep him. Or they may not.

I honestly think you try and move Hoss, AA or Kruger before even considering moving Bread Man. And hey, maybe he pulls a Kruger and signs another cheap deal to help us out financially to buy Stan some time to work his magic.

Same here, never got enough time to learn the system but if he had he could've been a huge lift at that AAV. I didn't think there could've been a softer Hawks team with less grit that than 2012 team, but here we are with arguably the softest Hawks team since Q has been in town
- Assman22

I don't even think it was not getting enough time, it was never getting time. They rarely put him in. How do you not use a guy like that after you traded for him? They just buried him and he was on the outside looking in.

Same thing with Ehrhoff. I thought he was a good guy on the blue line--nice shot, speed, skating ability, etc. Never understood why Rundblad was put in over him.

Hossa is not getting moved. The Hawks will forever be on the hook for his cap recapture penalty. The best they can do is keep him around and when he's finally had enough they just LTIR him like Pronger.

Ok. It's been 1 season since we won a cup and Soupy just came back for super cheap. I guess that doesn't fit your narrative though.

Oh geez, we are back to that name?

90% of the board tore this guy to shreads when some of us labeled him as our top TDL target last Febuary

- Katana777

99.9% of this board is not paid to scout NHL talent.

The .1% who is told me the Hawks love Boedker. And THEY had him targeted. It wasn't just board speculation.

It's all about context and ability, tapped and untapped.

Oh I am with you. 72 is an incredible find and a coup for Stan to get him signed. After seeing the 100% idiotic money thrown around today.. as in Backass getting 6 million a year? 72 is a young guy who is just figuring this NHL game out. He is a pure sniper and plays pretty big for a smaller player. A guy who potted 30 goals and won the Calder. This whole thing may be a foregone conclusion as to where 72 ends up.

Why do you people keep mentioning to move Hossa?

Did you all miss the Recapture penalties in the 2013 CBA?

Cuz Boedker's a speed skill perimeter guy who's done nothing at 5 on 5. He passes a 1-2 game eye test but not much more.
- Mr Ricochet

I have to agree that as much as I like what I see, he simply has shown over and over (in the stats) that no matter who his linemates are, he doesn't get them the puck and the unit is unsuccessfully manufacturing looks.

I see the jump he has but there has come and gone many a player who everyone thought was going to a huge success based on speed puck-handling and shooting.garret ross signs with Arizona
Paliotta to Rangers

Thinking a bit ahead here, but it seems to me like the Blues are letting a lot of players walk and aren't bringing much back in. I don't know what their cap situation looks like but.... could they be doing this in an effort to have enough space after the season to make a run at Panarin? They have his best bud in Tarasenko and know the Hawks cap situation is a mess, so could they be positioning themselves to offer him more than the Hawks could?
- roots_gamble

This concerns me too. I doubt it would be considered tampering if Tarasenko just mentions to his best bud that, oh hey look, we have all this cap space now maybe you don't want to extend with Chicago now and see how things look in a year... especially considering that Panarin has voiced concerns about cap space in Chicago

ET: this doesn't inspire confidence:

Mark Lazerus
@MarkLazerus
Bowman on an extension for Panarin: "Hard to predict on that one." Notes #Blackhawks have done extensions before, during, and after seasons.

Not as bad as Weber's recapture. Nashville is screwed when he retires before 40.

That certainly doesn't mean he is not tradeable. Look at Shea Weber, and his recapture penalties will be absolutely brutal if he retires at 36 or later.

If they don't improve the forward situation the TDL may not matter.
- kwolf68

How does the cap situation change by the TDL? And what do you have to give up then?!

I guess memories get short in the warm weather. Weiss did the square root of f$ck all after he was acquired and now its Q's fault? And Weiss admitted today after signing in Philly that although he liked the idea of going back to Montreal, nobody with the Habs even bothered calling him.

He's lucky he got a $9M deal with the Flyers who need forwards, nobody else in the league was going to pay him that. He is just a mediocre NHL player, now overpaid.
