To round this out, the teams that actually have the picks to make an offer over $5.5m (probably something like $5.7m next summer) are:

Anaheim
Arizona
Buffalo
Calgary
Carolina
Columbus
Dallas
Florida
Los Angeles
Montreal
Nashville
New Jersey
New York Islanders
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
St. Louis
Tampa Bay
Toronto
Vancouver
Winnipeg

After the trade deadline, it's more likely, that several of these teams will have traded their 2017 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. The list will shrink as the year goes on.

How many of these teams can afford the actual cost? Many are already in similar salary cap situations to the Blackhawks (LA, Columbus, Pittsburgh). Many more are going to be in worse shape next year than they are currently trying to sign their own RFAs (Tampa Bay).

How many of these teams are willing to part with 3 or 4 draft picks on top of that cost, especially considering that the term maxes out at 5 years (e.g., a 7 year/$49m offer equals $9.8m AAV for compensation purposes)?

Good points here that I agree with.

I would shuffle things and budget to give him 6 for 6, if he won't take it, I'd explore the trade market ala Sadd and Colubmus, then wait for the offer sheet, if he gets it, then go from there.

Also, Landeskog probably costs less than Panarin starting in 2017-18, but he costs $4m this year.

If you are the hawks, you do Landeskog for Panarin yesterday

After seeing the Vasilevskiy extension (starting 2017-18), I think the market for Bishop has diminished. Bishop is a UFA at the end of this year. It seems obvious that AV will be Tampa Bay's protected goalie next summer. Why would you trade for Bishop now when you could get him for nothing next summer?

At the very least, I would think the market for Crawford is now greater than the market for Bishop (which it probably wasn't before). Corey Crawford is cost-controlled for the next 4 years. Why save $50k for one year of Bishop (who probably will be getting paid MORE than Crawford starting 2017-18)?

I agree. But where does the money come from this year?

Hossa, barring a MAJOR and unforeseen deck reshuffling, is a top 6 RW on this team. Don't kid yourself. if they can't afford Jamie McGinn, they can't afford a player equal to or better than Hossa to replace him in the top 6.

You think they might just say (frank) it for now and wait till the TDL midseason to find the right guy?

What do they have left to trade away at the deadline?

Note: this is an example of too much pumping of the tires. Or maybe too early start to the 4th weekend 😉

Trading Toews: suicide
TrAding Kane: maybe suicide
Trading Keith: maybe suicide
Trading Panarin: loss of a really nice piece, but decidedly not suicide. He's had exactly one really nice year.

- Cmonalready

Trading Kane is not suicide. His value is sky high right now. His return and I'm just assuming a possible trade partner with Buffalo would net us a return of:

Ennis
Reinhardt
Ristolainen
Newly Drafted Michael Nylander
1st pick 2017

Ennis is money coming back and not to mention a piece to leave unprotected next season for the LV team to take in the expansion draft. That free's up 4.6 mil in cap space. That's money to cover Panarin contract easily.

Reinhardt is on ELC till 2018
Ristolainen a solid blue liner due a contract this year.

WE can't keep 2 10.5 mil contracts on the books and the cap not going up in the foreseeable future.

Hey SR
Thoughts on Blues freeing up monies of Backus and Brower to attempt offer sheet to Panarin next year ??????????? He and Tarasenko are best friends. Losing Panarin would be worse than Saad !!

THIS^^^^^^^^

They missed out on him once....wouldn't surprise me.

There are some knowledgeable guys on this board who think he is better right now than Schmaltz or Motte.

I'd remove the red font

Actually, I'd trade anyone on the team currently depending on the return.

Yes, that means Toews, Kane, or Keith.

I guess it's time for me to add some perspective here.

OR, they will move a big contract, maybe Crawford's, and use the cap savings to go get a top free agent LW, who the Hawks LOVE, who was very interested in coming to Chicago last year, who no one has mentioned the last week or so:

Mikkel Boedker

PATIENCE. Don't believe the BS. They are not done yet.

- John Jaeckel

Oh geez, we are back to that name?

90% of the board tore this guy to shreads when some of us labeled him as our top TDL target last Febuary

Actually, he has a valid point. One that I'm not against. I just wish it would have been done with BUF before the 2015 Draft - with the pick for Eichel included in the trade.
