Yeah, that didn't seem to confident. Suddenly the trade for a solid return is sounding more appealing. - JRoenick97
Agreed.....
Bowman on Panarin extension "hard to predict that one...we can't do a deal by ourselves. Part of it is what their outlook is on things."
Not to be overly dramatic but if you go back and read Panarin's quotes from worlds and at the awards and this....and add them all together, he sees a team with cap issues, and won't reduce his price to do so.
Given that as of TODAY, they are NOT cup contenders, and if Panarin is asking for big money, which I bet he is (well above 6 AAV) based on what we saw today, Bowman may have no choice but to deal him IN season to get a monster return. More time that ticks towards 7/1 the less he gets back.
And Panarin, like Saad, WILL get an offer sheet. No question. |

Q never won anything but RS games before coming to Chicago. Just saying.
EDIT: He pushed all the right buttons with a GREAT team to work with in 10, 15 and 16. He did NOT do that last year. We will see what he can do with a less than stellar forward group this year. - EnzoD
Coach em up Q. Put together a scheme that fits a 7 man core eating 72% of the cap with fill ins making up the rest of the roster............ No longer overwhelming teams with talent.

Correct.
Here's the other option:
"We know we have a Mack Truck size hole at left wing in our top 6. So yeah, we're hoping some agent and player will give us a break there." |

Faschling would be a nice haul with Guhle. Buffalo seems the only legit choice

Yep, and clearly I meant 10, 13, +15 lol. Vesey would be awesome, but very risky to wait another 6 weeks to address a HUGE roster hole..... |

Hedman and Stamkos both signed. Next offseason should be interesting for Tampa Bay. The cap is calling. - 93Joe
RFA's Kucherov, Killorn and Namestikov are RFA's still need signed THIS year. Palat, Drouin and Johnson next year.

All that matters to the Blackhawks is the Cap Hit. Their Cap his is $2mil higher each, and regardless of tax rate, that $4mil would have been very valuable. Oh well, past tense. I dont want to go down this road again LOL - EnzoD
And all that matters with the players is how much money they get to take home, so if the Blackhawks weren't willing to pay them what they wanted, other teams would have pay them, and we'd be sitting here with the picks and prospects that we got for them lamenting their departure.
Hey, the Cap is HARD (pun intended) but is there a better 1-2 punch in the league than Toews and Kane to build around in the league? Would you rather have Perry and Getzlaf and an additional $4.125 million to sign another complemetary player? |

Saad never received an offer sheet. Bowman flipped him, and Columbus signed him before that ever happened.
That's not to say that the chances of Saad receiving an offer sheet were high... |

Beg to differ......a few young guys, not 6-7 like Bowman is touting.
What was the final top 9 in Pittsburgh? - SteveRain
36 year old Kunitz and a 39 year old Cullen were in there.
And that will be what Stan will try to pick up here once the smoke clears - a few bargain vets and hope for the same thing they got when they picked up Richards and Handzus

I'm trying not to read too much into Bowman'a comments but it certainly appears that re-signing Panarin is not a slam dunk. My preference would be for Panarin to stay long term, of that can't happen then hopefully Stan gets a lot in return for him. |

....And if there was ever a time for a player to take a haircut this was it.
Like I wrote a few times Campbell has earned over $60 mill in his career.
He loves it here, wants to raise his kids here and his wife is from here.
For Campbell playing in Chicago was was worth sacrificing significant money.

What I don't get is you cite PITT's depth - which included younger players stepping up and a 39 year old Cullen. And the Hawks are going to rely on a few young players to step up and probably look to sign a older vet - but they won't be contenders?
It takes that lucky lightening in the bottle to pan out - Cullen, Richards, Handzus - for teams up against the cap to win. - PatShart
Pittsburgh ADDED Phil Kessel and Trevor Daley last year.
The Hawks have SUBTRACTED Saad (albeit replaced by Panarin), Sharp, Shaw, Panarin, Ladd,
So that's one huge difference.
Pittsburgh has also not depleted their farm system the last few years like the Hawks have.
Finally those three "rookies" were all 24 years old, none right out of college.
The Pittsburgh comparison is weak. |

yeah and they won't be show boat first day deals I am fairly certain.
but it won't matter according to some the hawks are simple TERRIBLE no matter how they patch...LOL |

And teams wanting to sign Panarin to the offer sheet are going to need 1) the cap room and 2)their own draft picks for compensation
When was the last player to sign and leave via offer sheet? How many times has it even happened? |
