Signed for $5mil less....that $5mil will allow them to keep almost all of their complementary "Core" members.... - EnzoD
I disagree it my look like rainbows but...
Questionable
This year the guys who need new deals since they include Kucherov at at very least 6 million, Vladislav Namestnikov, Nikita Nesterov, and next year Andrei Vasilevskiy, T yler Johnson, Alex Killorn, and Drouin re-up that I am pretty sure won't be a agreeable "bridge" deal... |

100% agreed. Nashville and Minnesota are strong.
STL took a step back, Dallas lost D and has goaltending issues.
is what it is.
I get the blind loyalty to an extent, but people wishing for a "few more signings" don't realize the cap issue. you dont' have the money to pick up a guy to replace Shaw...you are hoping for an internal replacement. Lets hope Bowman's young assets come to play or else this core will have to be blown sky high to rebuild and free up money. - SteveRain
What I don't get is you cite PITT's depth - which included younger players stepping up and a 39 year old Cullen. And the Hawks are going to rely on a few young players to step up and probably look to sign a older vet - but they won't be contenders?
It takes that lucky lightening in the bottle to pan out - Cullen, Richards, Handzus - for teams up against the cap to win. |

Thanks Eli! he is at about 0.50 PPG in the AHL, so would you say he has fairly limited offensive ability? Can he create his own shot? He had nice wheels in his short stint with the Hawks, but Shaw has been close to 40 points in the NHL, and Hartman hasnt hit 40 points in the minors. I'm tempering my expectations for Hartman. - EnzoD
FWIW Shaw never hit to 40 pts in the minors either and had similar ease to be suckered into penalties as Hartman does now |

Stan Bowman: "I don't expect us to sign a player of significance beyond today. ... I like our team right now."
There's that line. And Q won't like the team now. Here's hoping a few bargains pop up. - golfbard
Who the frank is our other top 6 LW? He likes a forward roster that is significantly worse than last years team that went one and done? |

The reason why Stamkos and Hedman signed for about $5 million less than Toews and Kane, is because they don't have to pay as much in taxes as in other States.
Take a look at the Steven Stamkos Contract Calculator that TSN posted a few days ago to give you an example of what other teams would have to pay Stamkos in order to provide him with a comparable net salary.
I don't know what the taxes are in Illinois, but I bet they are comparable to what New York residents pay, and if what is the case, they would have had to pay Stamkos $12.3 million per year in order to provide him with a comparable take home salary that he will be getting with his $8.5 million per year contract that he signed with Tampa.

So by the looks of it, Toews and Kane are taking home less than Stamkos and Hedman. |

Unless the cap rises drastically, they will not be able to keep ALL of those players. However, they will be able to keep at least 1 more "Core" member with that extra cash. That is all I'm getting at. I think Hedman may be giving Doughty a run for his money as the best 2-way Dman in the NHL by next season. |

I'll wait and see what the opening day roster looks like. When it comes down to it, replacing ~30 points form Shaw isn't all that terrible. You can't replace his character, but the production isn't out of the realm of possibility. I think Tuevo's production is harder to replace on the 3rd line unless a rookie steps up. - JRoenick97
Agreed on the points, but this team lacks guys who are versatile and can grind...and who is the new net presence on the PP?
Most concerning thing for me today is the Bowman quote on Panarin talks......
As predicted, there is ZERO loyalty there.....guy wants to be paid BIG, and Hawks may not have the room......if this escalates quickly he will be shipped off...... |

All that matters to the Blackhawks is the Cap Hit. Their Cap his is $2mil higher each, and regardless of tax rate, that $4mil would have been very valuable. Oh well, past tense. I dont want to go down this road again LOL |

Beg to differ......a few young guys, not 6-7 like Bowman is touting.
What was the final top 9 in Pittsburgh? |

Eli schools out...they do not need his rights...just him to sign on the dotted line... - wiz1901
Right except if Stan thinks he can play top-6 LW, then having to wait until 8/15 to find out if they can sign him means much more limited choices at that time if they aren't able to sign him.

Interesting. He is a left winger and sounds like he's gonna be pretty good, but the NHL isn't an easy jump from college. - kwolf68

Bowman on an extension for Panarin: "Hard to predict on that one." Notes #Blackhawks have done extensions before, during, and after seasons. - golfbard
That doesn't sound encouraging although I'd rather get the straight dope from Stan than false hope (Saad).

Juts got off the conference call....The way I interpret things the Hawks will add 1/2 veteran role players...Some young guys will make the rosters but don't expect a boatload. |
