This will be a huge mistake. If true, I don't know why Murray seems to think he needs to make a big splash this season. I get you missed out on the big fish, but it is no reason to now overpay for a smaller one. You missed the big one, stay the course, Okposo does not make the Sabres a competitor faster. The sabres are probably still 2 to 3 years away from needing to make move like this.

As a leaf fan I hope Lou stays away from the so called big UFA this year.

Key difference Sabres finished 23rd Leafs finished dead last. Buffalo is going for playoffs leafs are going just to get back to respectability which they have a nice core for. JW at WGR550 did the math and this would be 5.3 million in 2008 for the same player except with cap increases this is just the market

If the rumor of Buf signing Okposo for 7 yrs at 6mil a year are true, the price of mediocrity just went up. How much will they have to pay Samson and Jackson when they're due in a few years?

Looking at the money being thrown around today, Backes, Ericsson, I would take Okposo over those two any day. The money we just paid Okposo is good value for a solid 200 ft. player, who does a little bit of everything. If the Sabres decide to hang on to Kane, Okposo just might be the type of player to take Evander under his wing and help him grow up. As far as I know there has never been a sniff of controversy involving Okposo.
McCabe is not chewing up cap space at 1.8 per, that is a great bridge deal.

You do realize there is a chance that he plays on a line with Eichel Right? even if doesn't, O'Reilly should be able to get him close to his career point totals.

Ennis and Okposo are not alike at all. His stats are inflated because he played with Nielsen??? I dont buy that at all. Ennis had his best years when the Sabres had no talent to play with him. Ennis had one bad year, I would like to see what he has left.

Nah, you won't have to worry about anything like that with KO. It's the exact opposite...he's a solid leader. Thing with him is, I always felt he could learn a thing or two from Kane about how to actually use his size and strength. So, maybe they'll be able to help each other in different ways.

Good signing. The Sabres improved by 27 pts last year so it's not like they're looking for another high draft pick. Totally different position than the leafs are in.

He's played 6 season with the Sabres and has been a consistent 20 goal scorer for every single one of them, and in half of those seasons he WAS the best or one of the best guys on the roster.

Giving up on him after his first, injury riddled, bad season, and at age 26, is the dumbest thing I've heard in some time.

I don't see him as a top 6 forward on this team, for Ennis to be effective he needs to control the puck like he did the prior years when we had no centers. I can see him and Girgensons going elsewhere before the season ends

He may or may not be, once our youngins developt....but that's besides the point.

It's a fact that he's a proven, Consistent, 20 goal scorer on a crap team. He's had his first bad (in all senses of the word) season....his history leads me to believe he'll return to form.

If he does that next season, and then we want to trade him, Great, and we'll get good value in return.....BUT, you don't trade a consistently productive player when they're at their lowest value.
