Mono's right in that just because you win draws doesn't mean you are good at defense...someone pointed out the truth earlier, as well: the PK scheme needs to be better than it has been, maybe

When I saw him play, he gives good effort. Wins draws, thinks the game OK. Skating was starting to go a little, but probably no worse than White from last year

(frank), I don't know, man. I am trying to tell myself that the fourth line isn't getting caved in next season, but I can't even get there yet because I am still more worried about the third than I want to be

- AllInForFlyers

Is he right? Here's what I'll tell you. If you play on a poor defensive and possession team, and you take a lot of defensive zone draws and starts, unless you're a real special player, that players numbers are going to look like crap.

why does someone who isnt good have to be signed to take pressure off of Giroux...I dont think you will find anyone on here that wants Giroux taking more defensive draws
- YuenglingJagr

Is it a fact that he isn't good at what he was signed for? What does Hextall think about that?

who's logic?
reason? why not

- rinaldo

there is very little downside to the years on his deal...very little

he is by no means who I was hoping the Flyers would sign...but he is absolutely an upgrade over ryan white

best case scenario his stat line for each game is

14/20 faceoffs
4:18 TOI

Our 4th sees a ton of usage so he isn't getting that.

Ok, so he can take d zone draws. Let's say a top team with 2 top lines, even a good 3rd, like Pitt or Tampa or whoever has an o zone draw...are we just sending out PEB-Gordon-Weise to take a face off against Kuznetsov or Stamkos? No, we send out G or Coots. So wtf is the point of a guy who can take a lot of d zone draws but isn't a shutdown center? The players he can go up against there I don't want him going up against at ES. Good, he can take every d zone draw against 3rd and 4th liners.

The other teams top line isn't taking all of their offensive zone draws. Neither would Gordon, if he's on the team, take all of the Flyers defensive zone draws.

I don't need you to tell me anything -- I watched him play. Edmonton traded him because they didn't think he could handle those minutes, and by the eye test and the metrics, he didn't

It's a team sport, I'll give you that. But he owns his portion of getting caved in, too -- he was a factor in it

its much larger than that...but yeah...the decision is largely based on raffl, cousins, and laughton

They can't have G leading the league in faceoffs, hence Gordon. I think they like cousins at the other bottom 6 center spot. Gordon will be the defensive zone center

I would protect laughton over raffl because I would think that if my exposed list is read, amac, laughton that they will take.laughton.
And while I would expect them to take rafFL (or weise I forgot him), I would rather keep the younger and cheaper laughton

Why would Hextall sign a player where the eye test and metrics show that he can't handle it? What do you know that Hextall doesn't? I'm willing to see what happens, and acknowledge that there is a possibility that a player like Gordon could help the Flyers with certain things as a temporary stop gap.

You can protect 7 forwards. Both Laughton and Raffl could be protected.

Haven't back read at all ,but just to chime in, I like that we've been quiet. Championship teams are built through the draft. Plus, I can think of far worse people to sign then Dale Weiss.

I personally like both signings today... It's been said for weeks don't expect this don't expect that , expect Hexy to sign depth players. We sign two depth players andeveryone is underwhelmed and loses their poop.

Not trying to speak for everyone....but that is exactly what we are wondering

Hopefully he spends his time showing AHL guys how to win faceoffs
