That was the only way it was happening. I expected them to pretty much do what they did today. Upgrade the bottom six, help the Phantoms & leave room to be able to wiggle a kid or two onto the roster

Yeah. I hope Provorov and Konecny make big pushes to make the team in camp. If they crack the roster that would really be something to look forward to.

Hextall said he tried to re-sign White this morning, "but we had to move on." Weise fills that spot; Gordon is the PK specialist.

Hextall admitted he did not get a scorer but felt he added valuable depth. Money left over in case Provorov or Konecny make the roster

150K per year or something insignificant. Lots of bad contracts handed out today. Backes, and Lucic are both ridiculous. TB knocked it out of the park with Stamkos and Hedman. Gotta give Yzerman credit.
- PLindbergh31

I'd rather have Wiese. Martin is good at shot suppression and he hits like a truck, but he's also prone to taking penalties, too.

Wiese is more disciplined, and can slide up and down the line up. He's a solid player.

Vanek is a one trick pony. If he's not scoring, he might as well be selling popcorn. I guess for 1 year at that money it's worth the gamble for the Wings. Watch him score 25-30 this year.

Some people in this sport never learn. Backes is a buyout waiting to happen

- hammarby31

I'm guessing he felt the 11 goals were worth more than Hexy was willing to pay.

Hextall said Gordon can take defensive draws to save on Giroux's ice time, esp. on the PK

Agreed. I think Wiese is better offensively and has more discipline. Hasn't Martin led the NHL in hits the last 5 years? I thought I read that somewhere.

Have to consider the mode the Flyers are in. They're retooling, and following the draft and develop method to build the team. At the same time, in order to be fair to some of the players they have, and to justify the money that they're spending on players, they want to be as competitive as possible, while drafting and developing players, without sacrificing the future to do so. That's all today's deals were about. Adding veteran, competitive depth to aid the team. None of the deals, are moves that Hextall thinks are adding more pieces for the long term future.

There were some terrible deals. Backes is already showing signs of decline, and with the way he takes a beating, in a year or two he might be a huge liability

I hope both make it. Ghost made the team fun to watch. He was good, but the "unknown" factor was at least something in itself.

Exactly. During the NHL draft Mcguire, Button, and Bob Mac all thought it would be a foregone conclusion that Provorov would be in the NHL this year.

I didn't want to believe he would get that, but you knew someone just would ignore reality

I don't care that he gets the term or the dollars. I care when Jeremy Jacobs gets pissed that he has to buy him out and then wants to lock out every single player so he can figure out how to make the CBA make people like his management team look smart
