I get it: he takes an ungodly amount of d draws and is good at faceoffs. So is Paul Gaustad. They're awful or at best nonexistent as soon as the puck drops. There is a lot more to taking shifts than a 1 second faceoff.

faceoffs are so important to possession right? this has to be AHL

So I see that the general consensus in here is that we don't like the Weise signing and Gordon is a resounding "meh"

I'd like to see Hexy make some more trades before I pass judgement.

Gordon hasn't played an AHL game in 6 years, but I really hope so.

To be fair, it would have been "we don't like the ________ signing" no matter what.

yeah maybe...just saying he doesnt have to play to get exposed...i doubt they take an AHLer with that contract though
- YuenglingJagr

If nothing else the Flyers expose appeals to them I guess there's hope they'll select him to hit the salary cap floor.

Hope...?

Wiese, Miele, and Gordon???? Are we sure today is July 1, not April 1?

I remember in a Caps game this year Backstrom went 0/14 or something against Giroux in the dot. Had a CF% of 70+% or something. Faceoffs are a minor event. Coots is barely average and he is a beast possession player. In a perfect world, you win more, but it's nothing compared to how you can play when the puck leaves the dot.

If this is an NHL signing and not as a guaranteed 13, this is pretty not good. It feels downright regressive to have a player like this on your NHL team. Especially a 33 year old one.

No it doesn't. It's one year and cheap probably. It's the fact that he should not be in our NHL lineup as a regular. How expensive is VandeVelde?

Rather have signed Ladd and drafted Bellows like the (frank)ing Islanders. Amirite?

Our FA signings feel a lot better when you really stop and think about that Ladd contract and the fact that the Rags are seriously considering overpaying for Matt Martin.

If under 900k, can't it just be waived to the AHL if he looks like expected in pre-season?

I dont really have an issue with Weise at $2.35M, but I do have an issue with 4 years of it.
