Weise it what he is. They didnt break the bank and they got a good 3/4 line guy. Not the end of the world. Not the greatest move either.

Dale Weise...I don't think he sees four years in Philadelphia. But maybe he will.

I expected Gudas to sign for (somewhat)less, and would have thought Weise for 4 years not possible with the current management

Kind of worried that Brayden is going to get overpaid now in dollars or term or both

Actually, there is: Hextall acquired him, thinking he could play in pretty much the role that Weise will likely have.

Now, clearly, Umberger had hard miles on him and was trending down. Weise is younger and healthier.

But again: Acquring players isn't always gonna work. Sometimes it does and it's great, and hopefully it work

I know you're right. There are better deals out there today and there will be better deals as the summer unfolds. I'm trying to figure out why Hextall would jump in day 1 on Weisse. He's not special and didn't come in on the cheap.

There's got to be a reason. I'm waiting to find out what that was.

See, here's the thing about today. Every time we sign or draft or trade for someone, there are some who are adamant it will be good, and some who disagree, and we fight about it.

But as always, sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't.

Mark Streit has worked out.
MDZ has worked out well.

Andrew MacDonald was in the AHL last fall and might be there again this fall.

R.J. Umberger was bought out.
Wheels was demoted, scratched and traded.
So on and so forth.

Dale Weise...I don't think he sees four years in Philadelphia. But maybe he will.

thats not true...the flyers just have to expose a defenseman thats under contract for next year and has played 40 games this year or 70 games the last two years

Actually, a team has to expose a certain amount of players who meet that criteria. If MacDonald spends the entire season in the AHL, he can still be exposed in the expansion draft.
