It could easily be a 3 year deal. If he remains the same player, you don't think they could move Weise with one year left on his deal if they need to? Every player, is at risk for decline. I think we have to look at what kind of player he is. - MJL
And the Flyers are still maybe a couple years away.
A 30 year old Weise isn't a bad guy to have around. With a lot of the youth that will be hear.
Especially as guys like Bellemare and Vandevelde are moved on from. |

Yeah, we thought the same about Pronger.

He may have had a few good years left in him. Bergeron wears a visor anyways |

I don't care where you live. I don't doubt they were hoping that he could chip in offensively, but you don't trade for or sign a player like Weise based on offensive production as the main focus. Nor do you judge him solely on offensive production. - MJL
His forechecking ability probably played as big (if not bigger) a role as he offensive ability. |

No. I live there. They thought he would score on the third line. That's why they got him. Quenneville wouldn't play him very much because he didn't know they system and he doesn't really trust players he hasn't had very much, and they had center issues with Kruger hurt
They got him to score, because Hossa was having a miserable season and they didn't have enough offense. He just didn't score for them, and Quenneville used him less - AllInForFlyers
The brass didn't know how the coach was gonna use him, and they expected him to be a savior? That's just bad reasoning on the Hawks' part, then.

Bill tweeted the Wiese contract is an overpayment.
Stamkos took a discount to sign with the Lightnining, Suter, and Parise took less money to sign in Minnesota.
Who are the players who took less money to sign with Philadelphia? Other than Andrew MacDonald of course. |

Eric Staal 3 years at $10.5M to Wild - johm12
It's a pretty solid deal. I'd rather pay Staal a mil more per for a year less. Even if he's not the Staal of old, he has good underlying stats and is a very good middle 6/3rd line guy. |

I was worried because your first post on the Weise signing didnt seem like it directly came from a Sith lord but all is now right in HB land as this is more normal.

They traded for him thinking he was a late bloomer who would score, based off his production in the top 6. Not at at Kane rate, a Hossa rate. But they acquired him to contribute offensively, and he simply didn't.
Ladd didn't either, at the expected rate. But they acquired both of them to score and provide physical presence and size.
It's ok to say that Weise didn't get the job done in Chciago. He overachieved in MTL, didn't do much of anything in Chicago. Both of those statements are true |
