All the build-up and I think its going to be kinda dead for the Flyers. Limited cap space & other teams trying to fill holes via FA probably limits the trade opportunities - Jsaquella
Perfect. I dont want them to tap in until next wednesday. Get that second wave kicked off
No I think he deserved to make the team....even you can't think those 14 games in the AHL did anything to help his game . - landros 2
There were more questions to be asked at that time then "is Ghost ready to play in the NHL?"
Ghost being up probably means Manning gets waived (big deal right?) Well with injuries he ended up playing a lot and improved a bit during the season. His play made Luke Schenn tradeable, which made Vinny tradeable, which saved the Flyers bacon
His 5 extra points for being here from the beginning of the season is pointless to worry about now

we've been over this. You think Ghost comes into the league on fire like that without a spot on the first power play unit? He got the opportunity and he took it. That is literally the only thing we can hope and ask for with these prospects. None of it means the Flyers should start calling guys up earlier - YuenglingJagr
Obviously we will never know how he would have started.....I thought he was easily one of the top 6 to start the year. I'm not advocating rushing young D ....I'm saying in some circumstances it's better for both team and player.....to me that might be Provorov ....the camp will tell or at least should.

My point is that "my" hope is they take the best 6 d man. As far as to why their best defenceman didn't make the team out of training camp...that's Hextalls job. There's always going to be circumstances to work around.

Always a good day when the artificial scrambled eggs aren't too dry and they have decent cream cheese for the bagels in lobby.

I think in their preseason evaluation, the best 6 made the team.
There may have been some asset management involved in the decisions but I think thats smart anyway. It is a long season and everyone knows things are fluid

As a 4th line, VDV-PEB-White is fine (though I think they can upgrade from VDV), the problem was that Hak was forced to use them as more of a 3rd line and that was just asking them for way too much. - BiggE
They're all great character guys and give awesome effort, but they were 3/15 worst possession players in the league all on a line. They were "reliable," but more aptly put, reliably bad. Even if you don't think possession tells the whole story and care about results, when they were on the ice 62% of the goals scored were AGAINST. They were even sheltered too. They are poor even as a 4th line. And yet they were never broken up, not even once.
They need to go and it's important. Hexy has to decide if their character and hustle outweighs hurting the team. It's nothing personal, just business.

Unless they find a taker for Streit or Read - Jsaquella
i still dont think read is a horrible player, his contract is pretty high for point totals, but the underlying numbers indicate he can still drive play a bit. id like a stacked bottom 6, to take some pressure off the first two lines, something like:
laughton cousins weal/gagner (if they wanna keep gagner on the cheap for a year)
raffl PEB read
streit however i am on board with getting rid of, and i can hope this is the last year for schultz as well. hes a solid defenseman, dont get me wrong, but the floor of his play has definitely gone down since his good year in 14-15.

I think it will be pretty hard. I still think Streit will rebound. I think the DPP he suffered last year truly made his season a wash. And yet, he still was second among the d-men in points.
Read is gonna be a really tough sell unless we retain some of his contract. I think he is still a capable player though.

I don't think either is bad, but neither looks like he's part of the future and it gives the Flyers cap help immediately.

i think we can obviously also expect that the opening night d corps will not be the same as the TDL d corps and the end of the season d corps. just like shayne, if provorov or konecny dont make it, i think we can expect to see guys like morin, hagg, leier, straka, NAK, or others step in eventually, hell even Alt might make a run if he has a good beginning to the season.

thats true, how much of that cap we use tho this year is still up in the air. i know hexy would like to have a small cushion so it would help for sure. i dont see us really making a huge splash, if any, until at least next offseason when some more money is freed up and we get Ghost with a long term contract.
