Purcell is 1 year $1.6 mil to LA. Damn...he's someone that I thought could be a good buy low candidate as a middle 6 winger in possession and scoring. That's buy low alright. |

its going to be interesting to see who vegas selects. there will be plenty of 3rd yr prospects left unprotected (wouldn't Haag have to be protected?) and you have to figure Vegas won't take 30 NHL players being you only roster 23 players - nastyflyergirl
not 100% sure, but think I read Vegas must take 1 player from each team, so yes, 30 total |

because they signed a guy that sucks...sooooooo when ranking the real issues...#1 is that he sucks - YuenglingJagr
Well that's your opinion. Hextall doesn't agree obviously. We'll find out who's right.

So much for that 6x6 deal he was demanding. 4x4.

The owner is on record as saying that he would prefer to be young, but certainly there has to be some vets in there, for sure
I know te league doesn't want them to be terrible for years, but I almost feel they gave them access to one player too many from each organization -- losing Cousins would suck not because I know he is great, but because I don't know what he is

right but there will be 3rd yr prospects left unprotected too. gotta think some of the players they select will be non current NHL rostered players with lower salaries that can go to the AHL |

I'm thinking the flyers wanted white on a two way deal and he said no. - MikesPillBottle
I doubt that. Asking him to sign a two way deal would be a non starter.

I don't know who will and won't be left exposed on the other 29 teams but iff I am selecting I would look for a handful of the Cousins, Haag types that are forced to be unprotected rather than take a AMAC or Read type if that is all that team has to offer. they will need prospects too |

Flyers wanted him for less money than what he signed for, possibly. Reports are they signed Gordon for 900K. White signed for 1M.

Anyhow, FWIW, I don't love or hate what the Flyers did today. This is still a team in the middle of a retooling process and the progress isn't always going to be linear. They have several young players, both on the roster and in the system that will hopefully taking steps forward this season and Hextall is being prudent in making sure the team has options and the freedom to allow those young players to slide into bigger roles.
Weise is a solid 3rd/4th liner. He brings size, a bit of offense and solid two way ability. Gordon is a limited PK/faceoff guy. Weise got a bigger deal that I'm happy with, but it's a workable deal that isn't a drastic overpay. Gordon's underlying numbers are worrisome, but the Flyers PK was bad last year and if he can help it while not causing the team to dip at 5 on 5 it will be an improvement.
The key here is for the younger guys to show progress and the ability to step up and fill a top 6 role and to take on more responsibility in the defensive side of the ice. The progression of young players, whether it's guys like Laughton, Cousins or Gostisbehere or guys like Provorov, Sanheim and Morin, is vital. Young players don't always progress at the same rate and they can't all simply be handed a role & be expected to fill it immediately.
Right now, Hextall is not making sexy moves, but he's making moves to continue the process and help the team develop. |

I thought our goal was to add speed and scoring? Vanek at 2.6 and Grabner at 1.65 would have been ideal, no? |
