If Gordon is a callup/AHL player fine, but that isn't upgrading the 4C. Christ I'd rather have PEB as 4C by a country mile. - Mononoke
Looking at faceoff ability, it is an upgrade. |

I get it: he takes an ungodly amount of d draws and is good at faceoffs. So is Paul Gaustad. They're awful or at best nonexistent as soon as the puck drops. There is a lot more to taking shifts than a 1 second faceoff. - Mononoke
He's still probably an upgrade-slightly-on VDV & PEB in that regard. |

Will teams have to protect UFA? Will Vegas be able to draft a UFA from a team? |

We needed affordable bottom sixth depth. Why is everyone so miserable? What did you expect? |

I remember in a Caps game this year Backstrom went 0/14 or something against Giroux in the dot. Had a CF% of 70+% or something. Faceoffs are a minor event. Coots is barely average and he is a beast possession player. In a perfect world, you win more, but it's nothing compared to how you can play when the puck leaves the dot.
If this is an NHL signing and not as a guaranteed 13, this is pretty not good. It feels downright regressive to have a player like this on your NHL team. Especially a 33 year old one. - Mononoke
Why do the Flyers keep throwing Giroux out for all those defensive zone draws, if faceoffs are a minor event? |

I dont really have an issue with Weise at $2.35M, but I do have an issue with 4 years of it. - jmatchett383
10 teams were bidding on him and he said 4 years was crucial |

At faceoffs? He is, maybe at PKing but I would rather have kids like Laughts and Leier kill penalties or Raffl.
Does he make this team better than what it was? I don't think so. Leier- PEB-Weise/Read would be preferable to that. Having a guy who just goes out to take d draws without the ability to do much else is something from yesteryear. You need speed and skill in your bottom 6, even 4th line. No serious playoff team would have him as their 4C. |

He's basically-and almost statistically-the same as Adam Hall.
I'm fine with it as a stop gap, but definitely share your concerns. Looking at it more deeply, he's been a very limited guy.
Who knows, maybe they see him as a mentor and glue guy. Hopefully it's a short term, buryable deal |

I think we'd get much better results from letting Giroux take more offensive zone draws and starts, and let someone else take some of those defensive zone draws. |

Just looking at stats they seem like solid AHL pickups with potential to break through to the NHL. |

seriously did you really expect the flyers to be players this year in free agency? they had like 12 million in cap space with schenn Manning and cousins to sign and Hextall wanted to keep 2 million cap space. all we were going to see is depth signings and signings for the Phantoms. Outside of what guys like Perron got I wanted no parts in the 5 to 7 yrs on 30 plus yr old players. the reality is guys like Perron are going to pick the Blues and other contenders over the flyers on short term deals. hextall is still cleaning up the cap issues. I'm fine with building through the draft and supplementing down the road via free agency. |

I would have taken Matthias over Wiese. Again, as I posted before 4 years for Wiese? Why? |

Hextall said he tried to re-sign White this morning, "but we had to move on." Weise fills that spot; Gordon is the PK specialist.
Hextall admitted he did not get a scorer but felt he added valuable depth. Money left over in case Provorov or Konecny make the roster
