most likely does. vegas will take him and he will not take murray in expansion draft as a deal with ruth when leaving

Imagine if Rutherford makes us lose Murray and Botteril next year? Lose the guys that will be around for almost 2 decades for guys on their last legs, that will suck.

Rutherford signed a 3 year extension. I'm happy to be wrong about him leaving soon.

A little early to worry about this.....don't you think? I'll never worry about losing an assistant GM.

So none of you actually know how much bottlecap actually does, but Ryan Wilson assumes he does a lot so we NEED to keep him around. Is that the jist here?

Botterill isn't the only talented assistant GM in the NHL - it's not a given that he's the choice.

Botterill is similar to Omar Khan. He's a salary cap/research/fine print guy, while Rutherford is the big picture guy. Botterill is still in a pretty nice spot even if Rutherford stays for three more years. He's young.

The Penguins are kind of stacked in the front office anyhow, plus new ownership might want to hire their own people.

Was there some lesson Buffalo failed to learn from the original Matt Moulson, that they go ahead and overpay massively for Matt Moulson 2.0 ?

and I thought contracts were going to be lower this year.....this might be the most over spending Ive ever seen. Okposo is not worth $6m/yr, neither is Backes.

Well said. I think this is going to be a bust and is a significant over payment, IMO.
