If JR can flip kuni and Fehr for some rfas to sign he would be a legend... There are some good names out there that will be coming off ELC and can earn around 2-3 mil... Some young talents guys!

Pens have 2.8 mil to play with... That's putting Dupes on LTIR and Porter in minors...

Plus they can go 10% over until preseason to work out a trade

This backs up what I've been saying; Rutherford isnt going to sign any big names today because they dont have the $$ to do so. So can we please stop with these dream scenarios of signing players like boedker, okposo, eriksson, etc....

If we sign anyone think of depth players like Clendening, strait, etc...players that will cost pennies on the dollar.

I agree with the exception of Demers. I think Okposo benefited greatly by playing with Tavares. He can probably create some on his own, but put him with an average center and I bet he doesn't look all that great anymore. A lot of good FAs left off this list, some of whom can probably be had for not much money/term.

You would think with a young center like McDavid, Matthews, or Eichel, he would look just as good.

Love that someone brought up Dinger! Think he would be a good depth signing, but very much doubt he'd sign with us.

What are your thoughts with JR ties with Eric Staal signing him if he doesn't sign today.

His value has dropped significantly. Get some cap room with trades (fehr) I would give Eric a 2 year deal 4.6-5mill or a one year deal 2.6-3 mill. And cash in next season

Oh I know they aren't doing anything today. Just throwing out that they do have a little bit of money which hopefully they don't throw at Cullen. I know he helped Pens out and I'm grateful but it's time to let Sunds take his spot

Wrong. We have just over $1mil. Source: Rutherford

I'm slightly confused by this blog, is it just meant as an overall overview of good/bad players available in FA or was it meant to be a guideline of players the Pens should consider? With the exception of Demers & Weircoich I don't think any of those players will be in the Pens price range.

On a side note, as of right now Sundqvist, Wilson, Pouliot and Murray and the only waiver exempt players for next year, that's a combined 2.8M they can clear in paper moves to start the season until Dupuis 3.75M LTIR allowance kicks in, so basically they can go 2.8M over the cap with signings, then after Dupuis LTIR they would have 950k in cap space for in-season call-ups which should be more than enough. That leaves them around 1.3M-1.4M to work with right now.

I don't think you'll see a big fa there's no doubt about it but they'll sign some 2 way contracts and need depth at d. Highly unlikely they don't sign anyone in free agency

Doesn't fit our system since you have to pay for the boat anchor that he drags around with him.

Why does anyone suggest slow players?

Pens will sign a 5-6 D man for 2 years who can be exposed to the expansion draft...that's it unless they move someone which would be dumb unless you get a Hall for Larsson type of deal in your favor!!!

We have a cup winning team with most of the players coming back...Be happy with that!!!

That's a good point, can sign pretty much anyone they please to ~$1M if they think they are an upgrade to any of Sundqvist, Wilson, or Pouliot to the minors. But in my mind, that pretty much means theyll resign Cullen and do nothing else.

I have a gut feeling though there is a chance Kunitz is moved today.

The Dupuis thing helps us out but I sort of think that rule should be changed. If a player is shut down (retired essentially) due to injury for an entire year, he should get paid but his salary should have no effect on the cap. Like what if Geno was the one in Dupuis' situation, why should we be allowed to go OVER the cap by $9M? It just seems like a weird rule.

JR on making moves today:

“I never say never,” Rutherford said. “But, you know, I’m not being as aggressive as usual right now. Teams are calling me, wanting to talk about things, the way they see things, things they want. I’ll always listen. We could do something. But right now, if I have to make any changes to our team, I can wait until December or January if I want. That’s fine. I’m not in a position where I need to make any big changes or anything like that. I’m very comfortable with the team we have right now.”

JR loves to wheel and deal, its in his DNA, I think he's being patient but still wants to make a move to clear cap space.

Connolly would be a guy i wouldn't mind seeing GMJR look into to. He is still young and has potential, and he would be a good fit on Malkin's wing. Plus, he should be pretty cheap.

Aren't you supposed to get paid for past performances? Backes will get 5-6 mil per year, and he's deserved it, but teams should be aware of the term

Ekblad is the next superstar Dman in the league. They locked him up during his 20's at a good rate. Barkov and Ekblad locked up for around 11 or 12 million is pretty good for FLA.

I think Staal is a pretty bad target unless no one is interested and his price is driven down to the 2-3 mil AAV range. Otherwise stay away. He's visibly taken big steps backwards every year for two or three years now. I see a lot of Vinny LeCavallier in this one. Stay clean away.
- Victoro311

Agree on Staal. Vinnie is the perfect comparison.

Does anybody hope like me that Lucic decides against Edmonton, and they traded Hall for no reason. All the talk is that they traded Hall because they were going to have an excess of LWs when Lucic signed, which is batsh!t crazy because i'd take Hall over Lucic every time....

Now that they have McJesus, i don't feel bad for them. It's going to be hilarious to watch them ruin his career.
