It depends what identity this team wants to develop
Signing Boedker, Helm, and Grabner would give a clear indication what identity Gorton and AV want this team to have. Going after a Lucic, Backes, or Ladd gives a clear indication they want to go the opposite route. - rangerdanger94
I like the thought process of getting faster. Helm and Grabner can flat out fly, although they are bottom six guys. I like Boedker, but I think that he will cost way too much, and if we are being honest, he hasn't been a huge point producer throughout his career. Not a fan of paying top-line money for guys whose production doesn't warrant it.

I ordered a large stromboli once, not realizing it came in a pizza box it was so big, I couldn't crap for 4 days it was so much cheese. |

I kind of hope that happens...then sixers will get Harrison Barnes...love my Tar Heels - TPC
Barnes never was as good as he should have been there or in NBA, this coming from a UNC fan since '81 |

Where do you guys see all these Backes rumors. I thought the Rangers wanted to get younger? Why sign a 33 year old - TPC
I think they just want to retool the cupboard, not make the team younger for the immediate future. Although, I think every GM would agree that if getting younger is a product of making the team better, it's a win-win |

Boedker would be ideal if he signed a deal similar to Zuccarello's. I would really, really support that move.
But he will likely get closer to 6M, and that's a no go for me unfortunately. |

If we could round out our bottom 6, that wouldn't be a bad thing. We have guys who can put the puck in the net. They just need to do it. |

I wouldn't mind a mix. Its why I would like McGinn, but he is also probably going to price himself out of the Rangers market, same as Boedker |

I like Backes, but I am not sure how he fits, unless they are trading either Stepan or Brassard. I think they already tried fitting a square peg into a round hole when they acquired Staal, so I only see Backes happening if they trade either one of those guys.
If the Rangers aren't going to spend a ton of money, I wouldn't mind them getting a faster again, and that's why I like the bargain basement options of Helm and Grabner. Doesn't really help on the top 6, but makes the bottom 6 tougher to play against, IMO, and helps with the PK.

This UFA class is pretty deep. A lot of supply which may lower everyone's market value, hopefully. |

Honest question, I realize the guy didn't work out after he was acquired, but do we think that Backes is that much better than Staal? Not really sure about that. I think acquiring Backes and letting Staal go would be like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. |

Speed definetly was the recipe when we made it to the SCF, and was certainly lacking last year.
I just want something to happen |

I 100% agree. big body, young, put up 44 pts last year. I don't know how much he is expecting but would be a decent depth signing.
on another note. I am fully convinced the rangers will try and get rid of either staal or G. I think it fully depends on who they get back. If they can acquire Shatty, then G should go(righty-righty). either way both will be missed if moved. |

Yeah, but the names we keep hearing, McGinn, Boedker, Erickson, Ladd etc.. those guys might go for premium dollar. Probably get some other guys for cheap though |

It sounds like most of the big fish like those players already have agreements in place with teams. Rangers gonna have to look at the secondary market |

I agree. I want nothing to do with Backes and his SLOW legs. plus his large money demand is a no go for us. I want SPEED. nothing but SPEED! |
