Funny thing about Guentzel I think 3-4 months ago I posted about how we haven't had many flops (zeroes....not pouliot types) in the first 3 rounds in years. Guentzel was a guy I thought was a flop because I hadn't hurt much about him. Turns out he might be the best of the bunch. - sditulli
Some are now saying he surpassed Sprong as the top forward in the system. |

If he signs that contract with the Oilers, it will just compound the stupidity of Chia. No chance in hell he is worth that salary. One of the most overrated guys in the NHL. - madmike71
Didn't Gio want 9 & signed for 5/6?? Something like that?
What he wants & what he gets is 2 different things. The NHL has turned into a couple of stars surrounded by youth show. Oil need D more than wingers but he will help replace that player..........what was his name again????? |

What an over exaggeration. Johnny Hockey is at the beginning of his prime and Marcobello is 27 years old. Sundqvist is at the beginning of his prime and not a natural talent like Gaudreau, so one can say also still developing, where as Fehr is in decline. These aren't close to comparable cases.
I think you're underrating Sundqvist's potential and overrating Fehr. At face value, Sundqvist is nothing more than a 4th liner right, but you have to remember that he's young and still developing. I mean, the kid became better in front of our eyes this season after his second call up. It's not outlandish to think Sundqvist could be a pretty darn good 4th liner next year.
I agree Fehr is the better player right now and probably will have had the better career out of the two when its all said and done, but Fehr is in his twilight. A lot of people on here think that Fehr will have a huge bounce back season next year. I think he's just old and this is the natural progression of his career. By 2017-2018 Sundqvist will be the better option, I will place money on that. - Victoro311
Isn't Sundqvist going to be our new power forward wrecking ball?

I would say if pens can send Fehr and kuni packing and get Helm and McGinn at 1 to 1.5 each it's a win.
Add Sprong (when healthy) or Guentzel/Simon down the road closer to playoffs and Pens are good to go...
And if there is a chance Flower stock is super high they trade him at deadline (don't ask who Murrays backup will be bc I haven't thought that far down the line haha) |

Fehr is only 30. He seemed to get better (and quicker) as the playoffs progressed. And Capitals fans would call the guy a late bloomer as he didn't catch on as a center until a couple years back.
Thing about Fehr is that he can move up the lineup if he needs to, whether at center or wing. Sundqvist isn't a candidate to do that, both because of a lack of refinement and his lack of oxygen. |

Well, that and the fact that they'd both be 4th liners in Pittsburgh. |

Definitely noticed this. |

Someone mentioned Wis before. If he was cheap enough (1.5 or lower), I'd definitely take a chance on him. Give him the sheltered minutes Schultz had and he could be somewhat productive |

Let's make some predictions about free agency.
Mine is that, early on, JR will make a trade out of left field and an acquisition/signing out of left field. Pens fans (including myself) will do mental gymnastics to figure out if they were good moves or not. Months later, both moves will be considered excellent, if not brilliant. |

And that's why I'm giving him two more years of development and not expecting the world from him next year. |
