He's never put up 20g and failed to help CO push into the playoffs, I think those 2 will hurt his value a bit. He's also 26 so he's signing at his peak. He might be willing to take term vs money at this point factoring in his production.

Boedker will get paid this off season. I could see him getting a deal similar or better than what Frolik got last year

Exactly. Pens have ONE bona fide scoring winger and he doesn't even play in the top 6!
- T-Train

I was joking by calling him a scoring winger

another thought...wasn't Joni Pitkanen looking to return to the NHL this coming season?

That's a JR guy and would be a nice gamble for bottom pairing dman if he comes cheaply.

James Wisniewski bought out by Carolina...another right handed option if his price is low enough (pending health).

If you're Edmonton why wouldn't you trade Hall for Subban if you're going to trade for a defenseman?

I don't think the Pens will go get a big name, even if they trade MAF. I think they are looking for guys who will buy into what they are doing. You could see it last year, every guy bought in, even PK....you know that guy that was all about himself in Toronto...I don't care how skilled you are, if you aren't buying in, I don't want them on the team. I honestly believe thats why the WB kids did so well, they knew if they bought it, they would get a regular shift. I mean, this team flat out dominated teams in the playoffs, like I have not seen in a while.

They absolutely tried to trade Hall for Subban, it was Montreal that didnt want that trade.

Scenario: Fleury and Kunitz are traded for draft picks and/or prospects.

Question: What do you do with the $9.6M freed up from these moves and whatever small cap space is left after Dupuis' LTIR?

- T-Train

I do very little unless they are able to sign guys to 1 year deals, with the Murray RFA situation looming they can't commit available cap space beyond this year, it would make zero sense to trade Fleury and then back yourself into a corner where you may not be able to retain Murray next off season.

Cap space. I know Edmonton has a good bit of room now but they a massive raise for McDavid looming in the near future.

Since GMJR is not likely to sign Lovejoy, or Shultz...JR probably has Seidenberg on speed dial, since he knows him from his Canes days...would U be ok with him as a 5-6 D for the Pens for around 1M-2M for 2 years so we can expose him to the expansion draft?
- rocheccw

No, Seidenberg is done. His health is in shambles. Unless he agreed to a 2 way deal and started in WBS(I know that's not happening) I want nothing to do with him.

Draistl is a RFA after this season so yeah he will get a huge raise. Did Subban have any NTC?

Loui has only had 1 injury season, seems like he's had a lot of issues, 30G last year he might be pricey.

Maybe the 2011-2012 Kings who beat the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seeds on route to winning the Cup and going up 3-0 in every series.

Subban had a NMC but it didn't take effect until tomorrow.

Looks like 16mil in cap space after next year. Over 20 if they move MAF. I agree however, I'd sign Schultz or Lovejoy for 2.5 max for a couple of years. Sign Cullen and possibly buy low on wing or two. No 5 for 5 year contracts. Nobody out there is worth it.

Got Dumo and Murray as the guys that will get significant raises.

But Kunitz, Bonino, and Daley come off the books next year which is $9M right there. Granted, those players need to be replaced, but I could see Sheary, Sund, and Pouliot stepping into those roles for cheap. I doubt Murray gets any more than a bridge deal of about $3-$4M, so I wouldn't worry about next year. Dumo is the only other player due a big raise but still probably in the $4M range.

What good would it do to have if start in WBS? If he plays well there isn't a chance in hell he would clear waivers and would never help the team.

If Murray is the full time starter and plays as well as he did this year there's zero chance his agent would let him sign a bridge deal and leave that kind of money on the table. If Murray plays 65 games next year and establishes himself as a legit elite level #1 he's getting 6M+ whether it'sin Pittsburgh or with another team through a offer sheet. Also you post suggested trading Kunitz now so his salary would already be off the books.

Yeah, the Caps series seemed like it could go either way for a long time and TBL had the Pens up 3-2 - they could have easily won that series. This is sort of why I think we need a legit scoring winger other than Kessel. Yes, dominated much of the play but didn't always have something to show for it. Granted, it was Murderers' Row of the goalies we faced (with the exception of King Nothing).

Lets be real... I don't care how good you can act like Shero is... this is 90%+ on Chiarelli being a total moron.
- Guile

Didn't Chiarelli trade Johnny Boychuk for pretty much nothing as well? And subsequently didn't his team start a nosedive because of that gaping hole on defense. He didn't want to break up his top pair in Chara and Sedenberg and forgot that players start to lose their ability as the get older. Chiarelli has made some terrible terrible moves right across the board.

That team was really good, and played great hockey at the right time, a lot like the Pens this year.

I wasn't worried about the Caps series, not one bit to be honest. I knew the Pens would win, and with the Tampa series, if their goalie didnt stand on his head every game...Pens were the better team, and outclassed SJ in the finals too, that series should have been a sweep.

If Fleury is still on this roster there is no chance of this happening. 50/50 starts next year, which is not a bad thing. I am of the mindset of not just giving away a goaltender of Fleury's caliber. Dallas comes to mind the most when I think about this. They are a strong goalie away from being a dominating team. Can you imagine that roster with a healthy Ben Bishop or even Fleury. Im all for improving this team if the right deal comes along, but not at the sake of making another team legitimate Cup contenders!
