I think the cap will increase next year, and I'll tell you why.

1) The escalator is likely to be applied again.
2) Adding a 31st team isn't going to drive it down significantly, as they will likely take into account the increased revenue of LV in determining the cap. I think the players would be upset if they didn't and it only makes sense to account for the increase/growth. The point of the cap is they try to set it so that HRR will be split 50-50 for the next season. They have been inflating it more to account for growth, in addition to the 5% the NHLPA can vote on.
3) League revenue still grew this season with the CAD taking ~10% hit. The CAD has been recovering and it is unlikely that it would drop another ~10% or so compared to the average for last season.

I'm willing to bet the cap lands somewhere around 76 mil.

This isnt a fixed # being distributed to one additional team. This is revenue distribution. With one additional team, there is one teams additional revenue. A team in its first year will very likely rake it in. All they have to do is meet an NHL teams median revenue and it will not go down. If it is any higher, it will raise the pie for everyone. This whole there is now 31 teams to distribute $$, so it will go down is a false premise.

I believe the Dallas Stars want Brian Campbell. I believe the Stars were his 2nd choice. I also believe he rejoins the Hawks tomorrow.

C'mon Marlowe we all know Stan is going to announce the Rundblad extension any time now...

Seriously if they lose Campbell at this point I think it's s PR trainwreck. Campbell is McD's feel good story for the convention. We know he can still play and play for Q...And he really solidifies that defense...they'll be stronger on the back end then we've seen in a while.

And it looks like Ladd will be with the Isle...Ladder certainly a fine player and got a bump from Stamkos taking that deal in Tampa...

I really think they need to add a top 6 F capable of playing LW. Might not be tomorrow though. Think we do end up getting Soupy back which I am pretty excited about.

I look at it more as having some guys play above their contract levels.

Panik, TVR, Kempny and to a lesser extent, Roszival all should be able to do that.

Panarin already does. Now if you add a couple more guys up front to do it. Either FA signees or younger guys, plus the core playing up to their standards, the Hawks might be okay.

Worry that guys overachieving won't be enough - especially for post season. Seems like they will be very strong on D (esp if/when Campbell signs) but as we saw this last post season, you don't get very far without rolling 4 lines. Rather see a player pulling up one of the lower lines than perhaps trying too hard on the top lines.

Does soupy pull a Stamkos? Hope not!
