Huge fan of David Backes. Austin Matthews would learn a lot from him....all around game, competitiveness. I wouldnt throw a long term deal his way but a short term, high money offer would do. Leafs have the cap space and he would be a good mentor and captain to all. I doubt he would take the offer though...so never franking mind

My guess is the Leafs add Matt greene. Sign him to a 1 or 2 year dead between 1-2m.

Market for dmen is sky high right now with the Larsson and gudbranson trades.

Might not be the worst idea for the leafs to sell high on gardiner.

Gardiner is not P.K. Suburban, but he is not bad at all IMO and getting better.
