I still don't know why they had more centre dept and couldn't make rnh for dumba work.
They wanted more than dumba for rnh but ok with hall for Larson? |

I'm guessing this has a bit of the old "Subban Cancer" vibe to it. Especially hearing Hall's exit talk on the interviews. He's a proud and arrogant player who plays with his heart on his sleeve and I'm sure that rubbed a very conservative GM who has won on the backs of extremely dedicated veterans the wrong way. |

I'm glad to see other teams make moronic decisions based on stupidity that doesn't matter. |

Soooooo......can I chime in on the Leafs future now? - LeftCoaster
Our future is looking better than it has in a long time.
By re signing in Tampa, Stamkos inadvertently did us a favor, as it would have taken 10 million + to sign him here, and the cost/benefit ratio isn't good in that scenario.
We already have our future number 1 centre in Matthews, who sports a cap hit one tenth of that, so we really did dodge a bullet here.
I'm sure the Rogers execs aren't happy, but, unlike them, my concern is what will give the Leafs the best chance of winning in the long run, not what will boost TV ratings in the short run. |

Leafs biggest weak spot is RD right now. Only Carrick, Zaitsev and Corrado are righties. Expensive to add there via UFA though. |

Probably takes more than that, especially if a team closer to competing get in there. |

Defenseman are stupid expensive right now.
Stay away. Whoever signs Demers will almost certainly regret it in two years.
...like most UFA signings

Demers is no real upgrade over youngsters, not even over marincin/hunwick.
Demers anything over 3.5mln / 3y would be bad for leafs. |

If we don't get a defenseman today, all isn't lost. Consider these underlying numbers for Carrick and Corrado:

Maybe, long term, we aren't as weak on the right side as would first appear. |

Any guesses on what money puck value signings the Leafs make today?
Gotta think they are deadline flippers again right?
BTW, advanced stats have Lebda as better than Russell. Accurate or no?
Thanks, I'll hang up and listen |

I hope they stay away from Russell, but Babcock apparently wants him as a vet presence.

Russell is known as a shot blocker, not a shot producer, so maybe he can be had for better value under the radar.
As for deadline flippers, with all those expiring contracts (Laich, Michalek, Greening, Hunwick, Bernier) I'd have to say yes, maybe even more so than last season.

I hear the leafs just signed some guy named Tony Doughty and then traded him to Edmonton for RNH. |

Saw it on Twitter. Looks like they want Demers/Russell but I think hamuis may be on their radar as well. |

Unless it is 2 year terms, I don't want to see any FA signings until September when we get guys off the scrap heap.
We aren't contending next year, get some cheap, veteran tough guys on short term deals and stay the course. |

I could see Wis and Parenteau, again, as long as it is short term deals. Parenteau may actually get more from someone else after having a good season last season. |

I'm about to have a couple cups of coffee and then go make a huge push.
Happy Canada Day, my Leafy friends.
Can't wait for the Leafs presser to announce the Stamkos signing.
Wait, what?
Really?
Damn. |
