Sign one of Seidenberg or Carle to cheap deals

Trade Franson and a 3rd to NYR for Nash

- ImThatGuy

I guess I'm for the Nash move now that there's no Stamkos-sweepstakes. We have the room, could use a winger, and it's less of an overpayment than Okposo will get.

Ship off Franson and his 4.5, find a taker for Ennis and his 4 M, ship Gorges and his 3.5.
- Pegullaville

Franson gets more at the deadline when everyone d is beat up. Ennis gets you next to nothing right now. I would rather play him on the top two lines and trust he bounces back. Gorges would be the only one they would really be able to get a return on and he has a limited no trade clause.

Right now the Sabres have 19.5 m in cap space. Let's say Risto gets 5.5. That's 14. They bring in a free agent forward or offer sheet Kucherov. That's at least 6.5. Cap space is down to 7.5. Then they still have to sign zemgus, foligno, McCabe, lets average them out and say 2m each. Then they have to sign kasdorf, and bring in a backup goalie. All of a sudden they are at or over the cap. Everyone is kidding themselves if they think the Sabres have all this cap room without trading away a contract or two if they want to sign anyone else. I have no idea how they were planning on paying stamkos 12m.
- Themomentgood

No one is going to offer sheet anyone, we say this each offseason and it doesn't happen. It's only happened what, 8 times total? Not happening.

Plus, you have about 4 contracts that can be worked with. The Sabres have plenty of wiggle room.

They'd have to add to that...

Not one bit. I'd take Yak, but I'm not giving up Kane. Again, the bar thing means less than 0 to me. He needs to produce on the ice, but I want to give him one more shot before shipping him out for nothing. Yak can apparently be had for a 2nd or 3rd.

Based on his value right now, we can't/ shouldn't trade Kane. Reinhart/ Yakupov is brutal

True, but you asked how they were planning on signing Stamkos, that's how. Since they didn't do that they don't have to make those deals now, but it could have been done.

they really don't "need" to sign anyone to be competitive...this is the second year of the build portion of the program...they're loaded at center and have their top d-man...they have capable wings and a few top-four d-men...even goaltending isn't as bad as some make it out to be...fact is, they're not a cup-contender this year but playoffs are within reach even without a big-name signing

Kane is a big part of our offence whether we like it or not. Getting rid of him only hurts us. We were in the bottom 6 in scoring last year

Sure I would explore trade options if I got fair value for him and had a plan to replace him...

Only hurts if we don't replace the offense. Vesey is a good start.

Sorry Michael but I had to stop reading after that...

The line up for majority of the season was a joke with the exception of 23, 15, 55 and 90. 9 showed some nice stuff at times too. This roster lacks creativity, speed, skill, scoring ability. If Murray sits on his hands and lets us ice a very similar offensive roster he deserves to be fired. I think he knows and wants to shake things up and we will hopefully see that come tomorrow and early next week
