why do we need cap relief?
- Michael Pachla

Well regardless if we got Fowler there wouldn't be a spot for him on the roster

Fowler Risto
Kucherov Bogosian
McCabe Franson/Pysyk

We might as well save 3.9 mill for the next two years and trade him for an asset

Straight up, I would do that trade.

Kanes value is plummeting right now, IMO.

not a good scenario.

Offer sheet Kucherov and make him a D man.

That's a bold strategy Cotton

Kucherov is a forward. Nesterov is the defenseman

100% see your point and agree its just the term. 3 years sign me up.
But he if hes leaving St. louis i feel like hes going to want to sign at a place that he can finish out his career at and i dont want to be the team giving him 5+years

- yen6d1

agreed...still like the way O'Reilly, Eichel, Backes and Larsson look as the team's four centers

Guy can still play and I guarantee you he plays on a team like Anaheim he'll score at least 25 goals. I'm not giving him up for nothing.

That's what I get for typing while paying attention to my dog..

Let's try this again...

McCabe Franson/Nelson

No but look at the trades for wingers in the past year

Kane
Hall
Kessel
Saad

Who gave up the most for the underperforming player?

- sbroads24

I mean we also got Bogo in the deal so you have to take that into consideration as well. Pittsburgh gave a two prospects and a 1st for Kessel and that albatross contract. The overpayment paid off though

Right now the Sabres have 19.5 m in cap space. Let's say Risto gets 5.5. That's 14. They bring in a free agent forward or offer sheet Kucherov. That's at least 6.5. Cap space is down to 7.5. Then they still have to sign zemgus, foligno, McCabe, lets average them out and say 2m each. Then they have to sign kasdorf, and bring in a backup goalie. All of a sudden they are at or over the cap. Everyone is kidding themselves if they think the Sabres have all this cap room without trading away a contract or two if they want to sign anyone else. I have no idea how they were planning on paying stamkos 12m.

Ship off Franson and his 4.5, find a taker for Ennis and his 4 M, ship Gorges and his 3.5.
