Larsson was the only guy I would not have traded on NJ.. but I cant complain. Getting one of the best wingers who hasn't even approached his prime. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Hall also played with Henrique when Henrique was an awesome goal scorer. If its rekindled, 35+ for Henrique easily.

I guess Santini or Helgeson gonna fill the hole?

chances we can pull of Shattenkirk? 1st + Boucher? He's a UFA after this season so there's that risk.

Hall-Henrique-Palmieri
Cammalleri-Zajac-Stempniak
Elias-Zacha/Quenneville-Bennett/Blandisi
Blandisi-Josefson-Kalinen

Greene-Shattenkirk
Russell-Severson
Moore-Schlemko
Helgeson

that would be quite nice.

With Elias getting 2.5, Russell 4.5, Stemp 2.5, we'd have 3.5mil to spare, including Savard. This is a playoff team folks.

Does that space include moving Savard and Clowe to IR, as that opens 9 mil at the beginning of the season.

Any rumors on finding a sucker to take josefson? That would complete the swedish purge. This would bring an end to the lou lamerillio experiment of only drafting from the swedish not so elite league.

no matter which line you put Stempniak on, he makes us better. He's proven that he can excel in Hynes' system and is a veteran that hasn't lost too much of a step yet. With our cluster of ages, it might not be a bad thing to bring in a 33 year old that can play. The guy liked being here and everyone seemed to like him. He'll come under 3. It's a win no matter how you look at it. Bennett will be hurt half the year anyway.

I like that lineup a lot. If they could pull a trade to Shattenkirk that would be unreal. I'm sure it wouldn't fly but maybe make it Boucher and a conditional pick? First rounder if he resigns, second if he doesn't. We can dream right?

You make a great point. Ray has done an excellent job making this team younger but it's OK to mix in some veterans. The Devil offense really struggled after trading Stemp to Boston; which was also a quite absolute heist by 'Robber Ray' Shero).

I think the Devils will be cautious with money and term for older players but not absolutely against it. Stemp at $ 2.5M X 2 years is about max you can go on him.

Is anyone good at understanding NHL contracts?

Check out Stamkos': http://www.spotrac.com/nh...lightning/steven-stamkos/

Why would they pay him a salary of $1mil a year, but a bonus every July 1 of $8.5 Mil?

If the cap hit = 8.5 then why would the bulk of his contract come from "bonuses" and not a regular salary? I would imagine the cap hit would still be 8.5?

Am i missing something?

Because Stamkos's agent negotiated that he get the money upfront. For the player they can do stuff with the money right away, like invest, buy a house, etc. And his agent gets paid right away too. It's bad for the org to pay all of the money right away, but better for the player.

Bonuses are guaranteed. If there is a lockout he still gets paid his bonus. If he gets bought out he still gets his bonuses. Makes his contract essentially buyout proof.

All good answers. So if this is not considered to be circumventing the cap, which is not, because the cap would be the same, then I guess we should expect more like this come tomorrow? Offering big bonuses for a few years up front I imagine is a good way to entice high caliber folk.

I may be getting ahead of myself, but with the way that Palmieri, Stempniak and then DSP came here and light it up, hell even Farnham had a raise in impact, makes we wonder if the Hynes system will have the same effect on Hall. If it had the same or similar effect on Hall that it did on the aforementioned, it could be un(frank)ing real. Can you imagine having a Ovie type scorer here in NJ?

Clarkson did this to be buy out proof. Lots more since that are doing the same.

Last lockout Shea Weber got his 12 million bonus July first even though they only played 1/3 of a season.

More guys will be doing this for sure.

the devils won the trade value wise easily but i think edmonton is a better team today then before the trade. If you had to ask what was edmonton's 1 need it would be a player like adam larsson outside of players of doughty/keith/weber etc
- BDizzlez

The Devils got the better player though they will miss Larsson. He really started to blossom (D takes longer to develop). I think Edmonton fans will be pleasantly surprised and Larsson will be a solid shut down defenseman and if he gets time on pp will produce (especially with the talent surrounding him)

Now the Devils have a hole to replace. Internally or externally. Who should be signed and or promoted on defense

With creativity in puck movement and scoring ability; Hall, Henrique, Cam, Zacha, Palmieri, Elias, Boucher, and Blandisi available our power play unit will be deadly

I dont see how it cant. Hall is still so young where he can learn to change his game-add/subtract elements to be more effective. And Hynes has proven in one year he is a true teacher, not just a coach. Its crazy to think we have a guy like Hall at such a young age. Kovy was older. Mogilny was older.

I like this lineup with a few caveats. First I think Blandisi still needs some time in the AHL to work on his game; no need to rush him. Plus, I don't think the 4th line is a good fit for him. Luckily, you didn't place in Smith-Pelly. I would have Smith-Pelly in the 4th line RW spot with Kalinin switch to LW. Beyond that I might try to spread out the scoring by having Palmieri moving to the 2nd line and have Bennett/Stempniak fight it out for 1st/3rd line positions.

I do love the idea of trading for Shattenkirk however, I heard there are only 4 teams that he said he would sign an extension with. I highly doubt that is true, but it does make me hesitant to trade a 1st for him. Boucher+2nd, maybe, but not a 1st.

you guys are crazy if you think STL is going to trade Shattenkirk for Bocuher+2nd or even him and a 1st...last time I checked the Blues GM is Doug Armstrong, not Peter Chiarelli
