Scarlett may never reach the NHL and Santini has all of 1 NHL game to his name. We can't afford to get rid of Severson at this point.

Severson is 21 though. How much more was Larsson realistically going to develop at 24? Severson has the potential to become a better player than Larsson, which probably factored into some of the trade decision.

I don't think our defensive depth is as solid as some fans make it out to be. Severson and Santini seem really good, Jacobs could go either way, but beyond that I don't see any player that will ever play top 4 minutes. IMO our #1 priority went from finding a franchise forward to finding 1-2 top 4 D for the future.

Long time listener, first time poster. Ok, that's not true but i've been on an extended hiatus.

My thoughts. I felt so strongly i went back into the archives and dug up my old password.

The Hall acquisition is huge and it's a deal Shero had to make, but I'm not feeling all the anti-Larsson rhetoric i'm seeing on the interwebs. I think Larsson was an absolute rock last season, and the guy was playing nearly every other shift for NJ. I get that he hasn't lived up to offensive billing, but I thought last year he really turned the corner. Our team was top 10 in both goals against and shots against. Larsson played the hardest minutes both against other team's top player and while on the PK. I get that Edmonton may have "lost" the trade, but i'm a bit jaded about the shit that is being rained down on poor Lars head. THe kid doesn't deserve it and he is being crapped on by a bunch of people that would willing admit they've never watched a "boring" Devil's game in their entire lives.

I'll miss Lars and I think he is being way underrated.

Well with Severson and possibly Santini on the roster there are 1-2 RHD left. You have to figure they will be bringing in a D-Man or two via free agency.

Wiz got bought out so I guess he joins Demers, Campbell, Russell and Hamhuis as the best options out there.

I'd put even money on Lovejoy joining us given where he has played before. I'm just praying that Warsofsky isn't Rays plan

I don't think we have a lot of depth at all, because we don't. We have very few NHL tested and ready defensemen. We're probably going with a core of kids next year, which screams a lot of losses.

Agreed 100%. Right now we have 3 defensemen capable of playing at the NHL level. Greene, Severson and Moore.

Even if Ray brings both Schlemko and Merrill back they need to add.

16 hours until other teams can sign DSP, Merrill and Bennet. Puzzling.

Well, I wasn't thinking offensively for Larsson, but his defensive game. He is now an awesome, actual defender, forget about offence and points. And he will get even better as a shutdown guy. Throw in his always on point breakout pass... But it is all done. Lets just hope Shero does right. Im sure he wants to get the Devils out of the basement as quick as possible and having Schneider can do that pretty much overnight.
