i'm closed minded because i pointed out that the only time greening's name has been brought up in relation to the hoffman situation is when you brought it up in yet another "sky is falling" criticism of the management team.

sure...why not

No because you completely missed the point of my comment. My comment isn't hyperbolic in any way. I'm just pointing out a problem, which according to Cup06's comments might end up being true.

maybe.....but it has nothing to do with greening. if they aren't offering him big $$ it's because there are holes in his game that bother them, not because they're worried he can't produce. greening was given a contract pretty much based solely on half a season of average play and one good playoff series......hoffman has produced at a high level for 2 years. there's no connection between them offering hoffman less money and the greening contract.

There most definitely is. The Greening contract most likely has made them way more cautious, which isn't a bad thing; however, if it's going to interfere with signing good players long term, then it's a problem. As far as I'm concerned, Hoffman is an offensive juggernaut. Complaining about his defensive game is such a useless argument, and I see no merit in it tbh.

agree to disagree i guess.......management should always be cognisant of handing out bad deals....i don't think that one particular contract is weighing on their minds, especially when there have been far worse handed out recently (cowen, kovalev, michalek, phillips, etc)

Do a sign and trade with Hoffman and steal someone's early draft pick who is impatient to retool.

Then take the money saved and get Okposo, a guy with far more available than just points and waiving at his man on defense while waiting for a breakaway pass.

Hoffman might be an ideal guy sliding in pucks like Phil Kessel as a 3rd wheel somewhere, but as a key man on a mixed bag of offence he isn't a guy who inspires the thought of a playoff contender ingredient.

Mike Hoffman
For some reason there still exists these concerned notion of Hoffman not being what he seems to be; a legit top 2 winger on a strong playoff team. That said, last season he was given a 1 year 2m 'show me what you got' contract. He responded with career numbers (1g shy of the rare 30-30 club). I think the salary, from their camp, would be tripled; the Sens would like see him get MacArthur type $ who had 24g 55pts and then signed for 4.65m. I think Hoffman has earned atleast 5m. Maverick comments on this fit the bill however don't know if he's hitting 40 goals. People said that about Kessel with PIT. 40 is like catching lighting in a bottle.
My prediction: Hoffman will sign close to 6 years @5.5-6M

Top 6
What makes me anger, somewhat hopeful, and somewhat apathetic is the three question marks in their top 6. MacArthur is biggest because of his health. But the biggest on I'm looking at is between Ryan and Zibanejad; two guys that have TONS more to give. Ryan has proven it already and it's about rediscovering that goal scoring . Pressure on him and Boucher to do that. The trainers have been coming to his home in the off season to do that. Zibanejad is the single biggest x-factor. This guy could hit 25-30 goals and play a huge role to Turris; or he could be mike fisher without the physical edge and stay a fringe 2/3 center that just hits 20 goals. IF that's the case, this team and the rebuild isn't good enough and they'll need to trade and I will be pissed off

I wouldn't be shocked to hear Ceci's new contract announced today.

I don't have much on potential free agents other than that they would like experience(preferably a guy with a cup ring).

Pierre is tighter than the bark on a tree with info.

I can't see that, unless it's a two way deal

For the money these guys are making it would be nice for them to be doing something useful. I mean it's not like they are curing cancer.

All that happens is players drive up their asking prices and then other turn around and use that to set precedent to keep going up and up. Soon enough these guys are going to be seeing 10 million dollar a year salaries to hit a piece of rubber around on a sheet of ice.

It just irks me sometimes to see the opulence of these guys. The problem is fans go crazy for this stuff and somehow find a way to justify paying these guys their asking prices. I'm pretty sure The Rocket had to have a job on the side while playing for the biggest team in the league, and that was back when the players played the game for the love of it and not for huge contracts, or big endorsement deals.

I guess I just don't get it.
