@leftcoaster

Hall for Seth Jones would have been a better deal by far!!

- Iggysbff

Jones wasn't available. Everybody can keep bringing up names, but it comes down to are they available, are they a RHS and most names you'll come up with wouldn't be available.

They still have McDavid and Puljujarvi coming up. The new reign.

How is their offense terrible? McDAvid, Eberle, Dra, RNH, Yak, and Pul. You have all the offense you need, it's your coach that can't get the best out of them.

Larsson will be more then effective believe me.

- Devils9503

Oilers scored just 199 goals last year (26th) and almost nothing from their blueline. Larsson helps fix this how?

You better believe that should larsson stand tall as a solid top pairing guy, the trade still won't get its due.
Buddy will have to become a true stud 1 for years before the haters ever admit that maybe chiarelli knew what he was doing

I'm not implying I agree with chiarelli as at face value it's very worrisome, but don't bet this trade will get any credit regardless of what happens next year

Chiarelli did say way back, that it doesn't matter what you gave away, as long as you made your team bette

I don't care about being "better" . I care about building a cup contender. I think this move coupled with a Lucic signing makes us better...but sets back our cup hopes a long ways.

He was traded just a few months ago. We could have done it then.

Why is that far fetched?
McD is gonna be a stud. Maybe excising their 2nd best player kicks everyone in the ass. The D is still suspect even adding Demers. It all depends on Talbot and players like McD staying healthy. But I could certainly see it happening. Low seed, yes, but it will only get better (worse). This will be the new destination ala LeBron in the NBA.

Avatar bet?

Oil finish within 10 pts of a wildcard spot and you win. Loser has an Oilers logo avatar all of the next offseason.

Hmmm.

I'm not sure I see the connection here.

We were never ever going to win a cup without a true top pairing guy on the right side

We may have that now. Admittedly, I haven't see a ton of him, but I know he's got the pedigree, and just stood up to tough minutes as a top pair guy.

It's a question mark and we lost the trade on face value for sure.
But in not so sure I think we're Furthur from a cup with lucic and larsson

Larsson. 23 years old, 6'3", 205 lbs. 274 games of NHL regular season experience. Just scratching the surface of his potential & a year & a 1/2 from being fully developed. Has never been deployed in an offensive role. Finished 18th for all Dman in the NHL last year in hits, so much for not good in the corners, 24th for blocked shots by all Dman in the NHL, 45th for TOI/GP by NHL Dman in the entire NHL. Great skater, solid transitional Dman, with great size, just starting to put it all together.

If I were an Edmonton fan I thank my lucky stars NJ was even willing to move this type of asset,.

Can't wait for most of you to choke on your Red Bull; your to young to drink legally, when Larsson helps Edmonton make the playoffs.

While I am not sure this will end up being a loss for the devils, I agree with you. In one year, edm fans will love larsson, probably sooner. He is a great number 2 now who may eventually become number 1. His first pass is elite. He contract us great. Last year was his first full season on top pair. Playing all shutdown roles, all d zone starts, against all number 1 lines. He finished plus 14 on a team with an awful goal differential.

His point totals aren't great as he was consistently used in a shut down role never got pptime. As he matures, he will easily be a 25 min dman in all situations. His shot isn't the best, but his passing is.

Saying he isn on a bad team makes him look better. To get a top pairing 23 year old dman on a great contract, this is the price. I will miss lars. Best of luck. You all will learn to love him as I believe he is exactly what you need.

Agreed.

McDavid changed the game. He is the new face of the league, or will be. A new arena. Players will take less to play there now, and Edmonton is not short on O. Yak will need to rebound or leave, same with RNH. The bell was rung, and yes, the return was short. Yet I think Chia know that players want to play there now. This is actually a scary thought. And a cannon shot to the other top picks. The more I think about it, the more I think it is not THAT bad of a trade.

203 actually, good for 25th.

The real problem lies with how many they gave up, not how many they scored. Because the offense is there with McDavid, Draisaitl, Eberle, the new Finn kid.

They gave up 245 goals, fourth last, that's where they need to concentrate. Anaheim only scored 15 more goals than Edmonton, but they gave up 55 less goals...to the tune of 103 point season.

Forest for the trees brother.

You realise that as a defenseman, the hit should be your last plan of attack? Duncan Keith has registered under 100 hits the last 4 years COMBINED. A hit means that (a) you didn't start with possession of the puck, and (b) you're unlikely to gain possession of the puck after the hit. If somebody from the offense picks up the puck after the hit, then the hit was for absolutely Richard all.

And where was their defense ranked? How do you expect EDM to get out of the gutter of the NHL if they can't keep the puck out?

Yup. Will always be a bad deal simply because people can't comprehend that maybe, just maybe Shero wasn't looking for any other of the oilers assets. Chia pet simply must have called and said hallsy 4 larsson because that's what seems to be the popular opinion on social media.

Eh. I don't like betting for the competition. How about this:
Both teams make the playoffs- no swap
Edmonton makes the playoffs, Calgary misses- I will rock Katz for a year
Calgary makes it, Edmonton misses- eh...
See, I don't like it. No advantage to me. I'll bet a hater Oil fan like bff though.

It's scary to consider that a better comparison might be a young Barret Jackman. Jackman was also a "first pairing" defenseman when the Blues had no better options, could "play 25 minutes a night" and put up (in his twenties) around 20 points a season, never earning much powerplay time... which I guess now qualifies as a "puck moving" defensemen; and took all the toughest defensive draws.

I'm curios though, are there any actual top end defensemen who were held to 18 points in 82 games as a 23 year old?

- Antilles

to be fair he played for the worst offensive team in the nhl. I'm sure with a potent offense he's capable of 30+ points. You know your offense has problems when Palmieri leads your team with 57 points.

And not making this trade goes back and erases the types and length of injuries the oilers had to key players how???

Calgary makes it/Edmonton does what they do and we both win. I like it but yeah. Hah how about we make it Katz's kid for an offseason and call it a bet? A year is harsh. No bet for me on Calg; who the hell knows with Gulutzan.

He was traded for a center ...which is what the preds were looking for ...do you remember when hall played center ...short lived experiment where he looked like a guy who you couldn't trade for even an Adam Larssen

So having another top-3 Dman won't help our transition game which has unequivocally been among our biggest problems in creating offense? Sorry, that's where you lose me.

Seeing as NJ is one of the worse f/o teams in the league and Larsson getting more defenseive starts then offensive starts and the team if front of him, do you blame him? NJ only had 4-5 guy, all top 6, that did really anything on most nights. The bottom 6 was horrible. Cam was injured most times and when Stempniak was traded that left 3, Henrique, Palmieri, and Zajac.

I wonder how Larsson adapts to playing on a team with many notoriously bad back-checkers.
