Maatta was a healthy scratch in 3 of the games in the SCF

Larsson is closer to McDonagh or Stralman than Dumoulin.

- rangerdanger94

Stop trying to talk reason. Larsson is terrible and this is the worst trade in the history of trades and Larsson is the worst RHD since Pete Harrold.

Check your sources first. Määttä was coming off an injury and wasn't particularly fit.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Oilers and Larsson is nothing special. Hall has a lot more value.

You don't believe Määttä is better than Larsson? Larsson is similar to Dumoulin which is good.

- Barnaby36

The Schultz comment was up there with the dumbest I've seen. We need s forecheck breaker that can survive against the toughest competition playing big minutes.
That's literally the opposite of what Schultz is

Here's the thing; and it's true for so many fans. They believe what the media tells them. But the real problem is they're never able to reasses or Evolve that opinion.
Absolutely no doubt maata broke in far hotter. While larsson let down expectations early. They had 2 different curves.
And Larsson's certainly wasn't linear. But after a bumpy first few years, he's figuring it out and could be exactly the players the oilers need.

I'd rather larsson that maata right now undoubtedly

These numbers are not fair. The Penguins played a system that preached a high volume number of shots. Not to mention Maatta was often on the ice with Crosby, Malkin, Kessel and Letang who dominate offensively.

I don't think as bad as Oiler fans are stating. Yes it hard to give up a 20 goal scorer but it seems Oiler fans have been screaming for something to be done. If there had been better offers out there Chia would have taken them. The Oilers with all their young talent will easily replace Hall ' soffence. It seems a lot of Oiler fans think they should not change any of the young core and then complain ever year that they haven't made the playoffs. .If you add another free agent D you will be in the playoffs this year and if Hall rips it up you won't care.

Wrong. Määttä played 2nd pairing with Lovejoy in the cup run. The first pairing would be Letang and Dumoulin.

Btw, Schultz is an excellent player. He did well with Cole when Daley went down. The problem with him was that Edmonton wanted to make him a 1st pairing d-man something he's not.

You can do that when you have a Cory Schnieder
- Redmile247

You are 100% right. The Devils will be fine with an "average" defense. Cory will bail them out more often than not. Getting scoring for defense makes perfect sense with this team as constructed.

YIKES......... I haven't seen reaction like this in almost any trade EVER.

I always thought PC was better at making moves than drafting.... and so far, every oilers fan, myself included, would take this trade back if we could tomorrow !

I know lol

Edmonton is my 2nd team and I found this Hall trade one of the worst I've seen.

I could live with RNH for Larsson....perhaps Eberle.

Btw, what's the perception of Oilers fans on Eberle vs Hall? Was Hall the better player by a lot?

Is this a joke?

Players surrounding each guy?
Quality of competition?
Minutes played?
Zone starts?

As for offensive numbers, they're irrelevant for a bunch of reasons. But he'll get far more opportunities now

You can continue to post, but You lost credibility with the Schultz stuff

Schultz is not a bad player Ihateallofu. You know he's not. Problem was that you guys tried to make him a 1st pairing D-man. His ceilling is 2nd pairing IMO. Larsson will grow and perhaps become a 1st pairing d-man. I hope so.

Schultz played 10-12 a night against easy comp and got plum pp time

I hope the Oilers fans don't have any misdirected anger towards Larsson. He is what he is.
- Davey_Crockett

This is a really good point and I hope they don't either. In fact, per my earlier post, it would be entirely counter-productive to a player like Larsson.

Larsson needs confidence. His worst play came when DeBoer was constantly hounding and punishing him. If fans/media jump on him from the get-go for every tiny mistake, it's going to make it a lot worse.

Schultz is adept at exactly what Pittsburgh did for him

Keep him as a low minute 3rd pairing guy 5v5. And feed him pp time

and he wasn't qualified by Pitts

Anyways, I don't care about Schultz.

Unfortunately most people/fans arent terribly smart.

When the riots calm down and they start to come to terms with it, they'll then be expecting larsson to step in and dominate like a pronger. And will jump on every mistake

Hopefully he continues his development and is able to achieve succes alongside klefbom reasonably early to at least somewhat silence the handicaps

Most of us were resigned to the fact that it would take Hall to get us a #1 dman. But we just traded away our best trade chip for another Maybe. Larsson is not a number one by any stretch. He could get there one day. So could Klef or Nurse. But Chia already gave up prime assets last year for Reinhart and that turned out poopty. This could too. Then what?

Bad asset management. Traded a $100 bill for for a $50 because he thinks he can get a free $50 on July 1st.
