He's not far off. Hall for Rielly, Hamilton , Trouba, Dumba etc would have all felt like a ripoff. This guys are all at about the same level as Larson, none are in a different class no matter what the homers think of their guy.

As a devils fan I obviously am very happy we got Hall. But I think this article is a bit harsh on Larrson. Last year, he was the top pairing on one of the best GAA teams in the league. Yes, Schnieder had a lot to do with that but Schneider was also out for over a month last year. He doesn't play PP not because he wouldn't be good but rather the coach wants him rested to play regular and PK minutes. Lastly, it took Hedman (TB) years to become a top D. His growth was also delayed playing on very bad TB teams. I think with age and with a better surrounding cast Larsson will become a top 10 (at worse a top 15) defenseman in this league. As we all know finding/aquiring a top 10 D man is not easy.

Rielly has more offensive upside and is the more exciting player to watch but Larsson is far better defensively and the type of defenseman the oilers need and cup winners have logging huge minutes.

I don't seem to recall Subban or Kalrsson leading their teams to any SCFs but I definitely remember Chara, McDonagh, Keith, and Doughty. I guess there is Burns and Letang but the Sharks got dominated and Letang is one of the top defenseman in the defensive zone in the league.

Geez.... Philly would have given your MDZ and Schenn for Hall

This deal is horrible. NJ is scary now with Hall. I am not sure that Larsson and Demers are a good enough top pair to get Oilers into the playoffs. One thing Oilers are getting is a guy who can play D and finished as a positive player an a non playoff Devils team but You should have gotten way more than just Larsson.

Reilly tool leaps defensively last year. Babcock taught him how to defend. He's a two way defensmen it's Rielly>Larson no doubt

Maybe but it's not streets ahead. Same class, give or take.

Right now, you would take Rielly over Larsson every day. Who knows in a couple years.

Part of what you say is correct....Larsson is a good young D man...a top 10 or even 15 be a stretch. I think what has people scratching their heads is Hall is that good now....to project a D man for that ranking is nothing close to an exact science. This is a bad deal for Edmonton and one that could turn around the Devils organization.

Outside of trading Steph Beauregard for Dominik Hasek, this is the 2nd worst trade in NHL History.

It just has to be. This is a nightmare and I am a Sabres fan. The Edmonton people need to organize a public gathering downtown and demand Chiarellis melon.

Dougie has 34 G 126 P
Larssen has 9 G 69 P

In more games played

I'd class one as more offensive than the other

remember this post? those were the days. fyi, when I was talking about a hall for hamonic trade I assuming hamonic ++.

Yup. This thread was awful.

Did anyone catch the NYI fan who basically said that Hall straight up for Hamonic is only deal available for the Oilers and if they don't take it they will be in last place next year?

Those knobs need to take a serious 5, have a smoke, and (frank) off.

Timing of trade was really interesting.....wonder if Subban for Hall fell apart at some point and both teams went with Plan B...sure looks like Plan B from my eyes.

I been trying to tell you dumb homers that hall is an elite winger but he will not be worth much. Wingers are just not worth that much anymore. Why do you think everyone wanted RNH or Draisatl because they are centers. That being said they still got ripped off. I hope you guys enjoy being bottom dwellers because Milian Luic is not going to be half as productive as hall and your defense still sucks.

Lets go Buffalo.

It looks like Oilers skipped plan B and went straight to Plan F.

He could have gotten a better deal from Murray for sure @ least Fowler + + even if it is in division -
Any his reasoning and excuses make the deal seem even more odd - Oil need a top D man & trade for a #3 at best but give up a dynamic, speedy, tough, scoring winger when the game is doing nothing but getting faster -
All I can say is thank you for getting him out of the division - he used to cause the Ducks fits -
