Next up Lucic 7 years at 42 Million +?
From TSN

"Lucic is believed to have turned down a six-year, $36 million offer from Los Angeles, allowing him to hit the market. He's reportedly being courted by 10 or more teams with the thought that his new deal will exceed $40 million - perhaps at $42 million - over seven years."

Oilers, their media and their fans were naive to THINK teams would give away a top defenseman because they are much more difficult to find...The Blues offered Shattenkirk at the draft for HALL if the Oilers gave that 4th overall.
There weren't even teams like the Wild of Ducks offering Dumbas and Fowlers for RNHs or Yakupovs mostly because they all come with those already high CAP hits.

By virtue of signing Lucic next week, Hall, though better than 'vet' Eberle, and youngsters Ryan Nugent Hopkins, and Yakupov and their soon to be over-priced on the job training RFA numbers, was the best chip to give them a possible future TRUE first pairing defender...no one else was calling them back...he is better than Jacob Trouba at this juncture (who Bruins are trying to get from the Jets) and Jets filled a need, so their fans need to move on.

So you fill that spot with a kid who has been coing along, and had to play top pair minutes with another guy Greene, who no one mistakes as a top pair guy either.

But Larsson adds

Thank God the Oilers and Habs spoiled it for the Leafs trolls yesterday.

... The trade is done. Whether it is good or bad is irrelevant. Edmonton will be a better team next year.

After all the talk, stamkos turning down the leafs has hardly been discussed

Toronto is such a desirable destination for UFAs... It's just not fair to the rest of the league

There's no point even discussing the ideal 3 years, as that's not even somewhat realistic

Im sure lucic is pushing for 6-7 years. I'd be fairly agreeable to 6 mil @ 5 years. I think it's reasonable to expect he can be the same player for 4-5 seasons.
But I'll begrudgingly except 6 years and deal with anchor for the last 1 or 2

I like that Friedman said the Oilers and Canes talked about a deal for Faulk but the Canes wanted Hall+ for him.

Mostly because even giving up Hall+ the Oilers would have gotten a better deal than what they ended up going with.

As stated in anothe blogg , i am perfectly confortable with how Jones has played , keep in mind he's only 22.
- Alexzanki

I'm saying you got a better return on a lesser player

With Hall gone his 6 million plus goes to Lucic plus another vet UFA D man gets added and suddenly EDM is a much better team.

A franchise-type player, for a 2-3 defenseman?

Yeah, once it's all said and done, Hall for Larsson could be one of the worst trades in NHL history.

It's 'Kurvers for a 1st-that-became-Niedermayer' bad.

What does Larson Make? 4.2m so that number is 1.8 to lucic. You guys need him like an overweight hooker needs a Crack addiction.

Edit. Fixed

Here's to a 7 x 7 contract.

McDavid will be offersheeted

Depends on the addition . I'll assume substantial.

But yeah, it sounds like no one was making it easy on us

Doesn't sound like many gms were interested in nuge or ebs instead either

The alternative wasn't someone way better. Or giving up way less. The alternative was standing pat on s team desperate for rhd that's been bottom of the league for 6 seasons
