The PK trade is far less lop sided than the Hall trade which to me is insane
But i do think nashville wins this one, PK is younger and has a better contract, Weber is a lot more defensive than offensive, but just to me this is still a pretty bad trade for the canadians |

Team Canada also doesn't have to play and pay him every year until 2025 - 2026. - mw630
Front loaded contract... a non issue really. |

Except cap hit stays the same for the entire contract and he's 3 years older and signed longer. |

Do they take the cap penalty even if he isn't there anymore? |

Other considerations re: Subban and Weber besides those hashed out here.
Weber's contract was so front loaded actual cost in $ is <1/2 his cap hit for the remainder. Habs get $1.1million cap relief in a cap strapped environment (given Brexit, US dollar will remain crazy high for at least a year.) We can expect minimal cap increases for at least 2 years. Habs also get out of NMC. While Weber's possession # have fallen, his work on the defensive side of the game have increased, so he may be a better fit for the Habs system than that put in by Lavvy and the Wests addiction to speed....though we will be relying more on our more goalie given the West's equal addiction for Sasquach 1st centers and not having Angry Shea to clear out the crease.
These do not address the other issues brought up here (contract length, age, etc.). I'm just adding data.
Personally, I'm not entirely sure where I stand on the trade. I just hope our head coach uses his talent well and our anemic PP becomes an actual threat in the playoffs. If this happens, it will have been a good trade for the Predators. |

Let me guess - Karlsson and Letang are terrible at defending too? Great commentators like you going to the "You must not much watch hockey much" defense but provide not stats to backup your Weber is better argument. I'm glad you're excited to play against PK 5x a year and continue to watch the Wild underachieve either way. - mw630
karlsson and letang are better than pk.. yeah and we will see but i don't see pk dominating the central in front of the net the way weber did.. and that wasn't a defense it was joking hope you didn't get your feelings hurt |

Nashville wins this trade...in 3-4 years when Weber slows down, for now lets not forget that MB just traded for Nashvilles face of their franchise AND captain. Along with the fact that Weber can put a puck through a fridge door is Muller is on board to help the pp. Their man advantage just got 100% better. Like I said though in 3-4 years PK will still be flying while Weber regresses. The cap hit is no problem though the Habs save money instantly and in 3-4 years the cap will only be going up. As for the Hall trade, if Im an Oilers fan Id be vomiting and convulsing continuously into next season. (at least) |

Yes. Contract was from old system that tried to circumvent the CBA, so his cap hit stays with contracting team.

I'm very sensitive and my feelings get hurt quite easily
As a Pens fan, I don't know that Letang is better than PK. I'd say they're very much on the same level. I just think Nashville wins out on this trade - but opinions are like bumholes... |

Does anyone else find it odd that three major deals happen all within the same hour? I mean really what are the odds. I wonder if the league has a part of that to create more buzz. |

Weber has 5 years left at a reasonable cap hit as a number one dman, and 5 as a number 4 dman. Subban will be a top 2 dman for the next 8 years, but has a much higher cap hit.

Anyone remember the Seinfeld episode where Kramer is suing the coffee company?
NJ War room: "Ok, we offer them Larsson, Schneider, and a 1st for Hall and Talbot.
makes the call
NJ: "Hey Pete, were interested in an offer for Hall. We'll send you Larsson..."
Chiarelli interrupts: "We'll take it!" - maaddmike
Remember it well, perfect analogy. I'm blown away!
