Doesn't mean he should be. He would not be a 1D on at least 12-14 teams in the league, and probably more than that.
He certainly could grow into the role though. - FLflames34
There's 30 teams in the league so there's 60 top pair dmen, trust me he's already one of those, and the numbers will show it now that he gets out of NJ. |

Preds mnagement is taking a big risk hoping Weber plays out the contract. They may be on the hook for 6-7 mill in cap recapture for the last few years of the deal. - Iggysbff
Preds not a cap team. Really shouldn' t worry them at all.

Why is signing lucic a grave error?
The argument about players breaking down is reasonable. But not fact.
Backes is the same age now as lucic will be in the 5 season of his upcoming contract.
Backes is as effective and physical as ever.
Would I've paid backes that kind of money for what he did over the last 5 years?
Absolutely
It's a gamble- but not a slam dunk mistake - Ihateallofu
He's 28 which is in hockey age on the back age of a players prime. His skating from a lot of viewpoints has already slowed and while he had good numbers with the Kings he started to slow down towards the end of the season. They have a younger version of him in Maroon who might be a 20 goal scorer playing with McDavid. |

As it stands, yes we could've kept Hall. But:
A) Our defense (or even team) wouldn't of improved
B) Hall would be gone by the time his contract runs out.
To say that the expansion draft had no implications is just boneheaded - I_Love_Timmies
Yup. It's confirmed. You really are the dumbest (frank) that ever graced these boards.
The expansion draft is next summer. Our team could have improved in a million other ways.
The trade is a massive loss for the Oilers. Try to justify it by talking about signing UFAs doesn't make the trade any less awful. |

You will be paying the same money as Hall (or more) for a less talented, less proficient, older player who is more likely to regress early. - FLflames34
But we added larsson as well
Lucic certainly isn't at halls level, but there's some logic to what just happened
I sure do wish it was nuge instead, but Ima assume the returns for him and ebs just weren't there.
I'm also ok with puljujarvi being shelter abit on the 3rd line beside nuge |

Nashville had a top 4 D who could all be top line D. Chicago has 3. Calgary has 3. Ect.
Not saying he can't be a 1D, but on a team loaded on the back end he certainly would not be. |

Lucic is not a bad player. It is a handcuff contract and is clear as day. Lock him up for 3 yrs it would be perfect. Any more, buyer beware, storm clouds are on the horizon. |

I guess if the price for Subban or Weber was higher than what you gave up for Larsson, you better be happy with this trade. |

Well one thing we can agree on is the Oilers are not exactly loaded on the back end. Particularly on the right side. |

He'll play beside Leon and eberle I bet.
He's far superior to maroon too.
With the addition of him, maroon and kassian, Chias building a big effin team
As I said with my backes comparison, it's a gamble. But could be great for a few years. And at present, anything beyond short term success is secondary for this organization |

Correct. He may line up there, but ideally they would have traded for a Shattenkirk type. Still better than what they had on the right side. Either he improves enough once they start competing every year, or he slides to 2D if he plateaus near where his game is now once they become that team. |
