Now seriously, how often does this happen on Hockeybuzz?
- chompsey

Not very often. I generally try to give fair judgement. Didn't say I was always polite about it tho.

We are comparing the lesser of 2 evils.

Yes our trade is better, but neither is great. With Edmonton's being quite bad.

- classic321

Ours certainly isn't a homerun, we gave up more in terms of picks than we should have, but Mccann was redundant, (possibly) poor in the locker room, and we added a big, tough defenseman, something we have been lacking. We didn't give up anything comparable to one of the best players in the league so I think it's fair to say our deal was much, much better.

Im not sure you can actually infer that from a couple analytical stats.....that'd be a pretty ignorant way of gauging players effectiveness.....
- chompsey

Agreed.

I also think neither EDM or VAN fans should look at those charts as the be-all end-all way to evaluate their trades. Those charts are in serious need of some usage context.

Who cares we gave up a fraction of what they did for players who can be talked about in the same sentence
- NorthNuck

We could still have our deep regrets realized if McCann does better than expected in the fluffier eastern conference and that second rounder JB sent to FLA turns into something.

Not to mention, the defensive/offensive systems being used, the players paired with and role on the team should also be considered. Not everything in sports is about stats, or cap hits or contract terms. It's what you contribute on and off the ice for the team that matters.

No he got fined for tampering with Subban because Subban wasn't on the market, apparently.

NHL owes Benning $50,000 now cause Bergevin is a liar?

and the question is kind of moot (as you pointed out earlier). the relative costs for both players means that larsson should be exponentially better than guddy. the fact that it is up for discussion is not a good thing (from an edm perspective).

it would be very interesting to hear what edm offered for guddy.

- RealityChecker

Exactly.

And to your second point I wouldn't even be certain they made offers for Guddy. I don't know how extensively he was shopped or if it was more JB targeting someone he liked. Who knows.

It's true we could get burned long term, but Mccann and a 2nd are not comparable to one of the best players on the planet

He didn't donate. He pledged to raise 10mil over like 7 years.

Imo, the biggest things that need to be accounted for are:

i) Zone starts
ii) PP/PK usage
iii) Defense/Offense Systems (as Jason Lewis will tell you, it's no coincidence why Muzzin thrives in LA).
iv) Things like shooting %, shot quality and PDO.

Definitely some things I'm missing but like you say, stats do not currently tell us the whole picture (nor are they meant to).

Would be a mistake on FLAs part imo if they didn't ask around (especially to the Oil) but maybe JB wanted an answer straight away and they were high on McCann.

Also interesting note, Florida has replaced Kulikov and Guddy with Yandle and Pysyk this off-season while also gaining other notable assets. Pysyk is still up in the air but altogether doesn't seem like a bad play by FLA.

I love how you are in here trying to compare Gudbrandson and Larrson while deflecting from the fact that Oilers just made one of the worst trades in the league in the last 20 years.

when the talk turned to the declining canadian dollar and the innovative ways the leafs wanted to pay stamkos, the player knew he would be staying in tampa bay.

- RealityChecker

In all seriousness, doesn't the idea of bringing the Canadian Tire CEO into the Leafs meeting with Stamkos smack of cap circumvention?

We all knew that Stamkos would be well-positioned to make big money on sponsorship deals if he signed with the Leafs, but if it's some sort of formal partnership where Cdn Tire promises to take on a certain percent of Stamkos' income (which would also be exempt from escrow, I imagine), that seems like a step down a slippery slope.

I could see an agent or a lawyer advising a client to stay far away from a situation like that.

By the way, This is why Juolevi was a Great pick! Look who has more value in a trade then the LW

Don't forget, Brian Campbell and Willie Mitchell will also be missing from Florida's D next season. (EDIT) And they have Mike Matheson coming in, who was good for them down the stretch and strong at the World Championship.

I wouldn't use this trade to determine value. it looks like Chirelli started drinking a little early for the long weekend.

Please go back to grade school, learn to read, read the previous 5 pages of this thread, then reconsider this idiotic comment.

Thanks.

Until then:

i) I'm not really interested in comparing the two. I was simply participating in the discussion others brought about.
ii) I'm not deflecting anything. It's a garbage trade. And as I said before, there is no point on comparing Guddy/Larsson because no matter how you look at it, at the end of the day the answer will be the same; JBs move for Guddy >>>>>> PCs move for Larsson.

Benning made a smart pick considering the value of stuff dman in this league. Juolevi will be patrolling the Nux blue line for years to come and would be worth tkachook plus...

Besides Nux already have Jake and Brock...

Right, so in truth, Yandle is Campbells replacement, Matheson is Kulikovs replacement, Pysyk is Guddys replacement and Mitchell is addition by subtraction?
