If he was okay with only 4 years, he would have signed in BOS. Not happening. - VanHockeyGuy
Maybe he doesn't like their "culture" there? |

Thanks Carol nice piece! I've been on the Brandon Pirri waggon since I think he could be a good game who would come fairly cheap for a 22 goal scorer and I also think that maybe we could look at Brayden Schenn as he was one of the top point getters in the last half of last season. - allsports
Not sure I see the point in signing Pirri. He is small and soft and has scored 24 and 29 points in his last two seasons (his best). Florida and Anaheim both have no interest. |

Looking at the Oilers thread they're not being easy on chiapet either. Good for them seeing it for what it is. Already saying he's the architect of the worst trades in Oilers history. Wow, did they forget about Gretzky already? - allsports
Its gets worse. This is from Elliiotte Friedman's 30 thoughts on Edmonton:
... we’re talking seven years, $42M for Lucic
7 years at 6 mill per. The last 4-5 years of that deal will hurt. Meanwhile Hall will ripping it up in NJ. |

Win, Wash, Loss
Traded Jason Garrison and Jeff Costello to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a second round pick in the 2014 Draft. Verdict: Loss Jim wanted him gone and he got virtually nothing in return the pick was used to for Linden Vey.
Traded the 2014 3rd round pick to the New York Rangers for Derek Dorsett. Verdict: Win Plenty of reasons to like this deal.
Traded Ryan Kesler and a 2015 3rd round pick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Luca Sbisa, Nick Bonino and 1st and 3rd round picks in the 2014 Draft. Verdict: Win Young D that can skate Low cap hit Young center and 2 great draft picks.
Traded a 2nd round pick in 2014 to the Los Angeles Kings for Linden Vey. Verdict: Wash This was a case one for me Vey filled a gap but ultimately wasn't that great for us.
Traded Kellan Lain to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Will Acton. Verdict: Wash
Traded Alexandre Mallet and a 3rd round pick in 2016 to the New York Islanders in exchange for Andrey Pedan. Verdict: Win No need to give a reason.
Traded Gustav Forsling to the Chicago Blackhawks for Adam Clendening. Verdict: Loss I think JB took a gamble and lost on this one. I don't think he learned and I am glad for it.(see below)
Traded a 2nd round pick in 2015 to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Sven Baertschi. Verdict: Win Another gamble this one payed off big time.
Traded Dustin Jeffrey to the New York Islanders in exchange for Cory Conacher. Verdict: Wash
Traded Eddie Lack to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 3rd and 7th round pick in the 2015 Entry Draft. Verdict: Win This was one wasn't tough for me, though I know most of you might disagree. We are luck we got that much for a back up 27year old goalie.
Traded Patrick McNally to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 7th round pick in 2015. Verdict: Wash
Traded Kevin Bieksa to the Anaheim Ducks for a 2nd round pick in 2016. Verdict: Loss Defence are hard to come by I feel we could have gotten more. Plus Beiksa was a heart and soul guy. At his best he was one of my favourites.
Traded Zack Kassian and a 5th round pick in 2016 to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Brandon Prust. Verdict: Win No specifics but yeah no brainer for me.
Traded Nick Bonino, Adam Clendening and a 2nd round pick in 2016 to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Brandon Sutter and a conditional 3rd round pick in 2016. Verdict: Unknown(Sutter hasn't had a chance to show us either way) I feel however that straight across Sutter is a better player than MVP Bonino.
Traded Nicklas Jensen and a 7th round pick in 2017 to the New York Rangers for Emerson Etem. Verdict: Wash?Win? One inconsistent player for another. Who knows right now?
Trades Hunter Shinkaruk to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Markus Granlund. Verdict: Loss I didn't like this one. I liked Hunter. For me this is a bad one. I know many of you will disagree.
Canucks trade 5th pick in 2017 Draft to the Edmonton Oilers for D Philip Larsen. Verdict: Wash Too early to tell.
Canucks trade Jared McCann and a 2nd and a 4th else for Erik Gudbransen and a 5th.
Verdict: Huge Win imo. Many won't agree but this trade pushed me to give JB a pass
So, thus far Jimmy boy isn't looking like a trade master nor is he looking like he sucks at it either. I will give him a passing grade though mostly because he came in and had the balls to make moves and get the stale core out. My biggest knock against him trades, the rumoured ones he didn't make at the deadline. This is also one of the things I liked because you don't give away players for nothing which tells me he isn't a push over. It is kind of an intangible. I am sure many of you will disagree.
Coulda Woulda Shoulda.
Next I will address my feelings on Signings, free agents and waivers. |

Hated Garrison , still don't consider it a loss. Couldn't skate, couldn't hit the net.. And bieksa for a 2nd is a win to me. He declined massively in his last year here and anytime I watched him last year it was more of the same. Will always love juice but it was a trade we needed to make.. He'd be a 4.5 mill 5/6 guy on this team. I'd take hamhuis In a heartbeat there |

Agree with most...but, Bieksa trade was a clear win, especially with the contract he signed. Also, McNally was a clear win. McNally couldnt' make it in the AHL and we ended up with Tate Olsen |

I wonder if he was ever quoted as a player, that he would bring the cup to Toronto?
maybe not what was intended, like a Lannister. |
