not necessarily. we're getting into a grey area but i think the leafs were well within their rights to negotiate hard.
i'll refer you to s26.3 (c) (ii) of the cba:
However, nothing in this Section 26.3(e) is intended to prohibit a Player
from entering into a sponsorship, endorsement or other commercial
arrangement with a local sponsor or entity with which his Club does
business but which is not a Club Affiliated Entity, in which the Player
receives something of value, provided the thing of value received is
commensurate with (i.e., not clearly in excess of) the fair market value of
the services rendered by the Player on behalf of the sponsor or entity

If I'm Milan Lucic I'm asking for even more money now that Taylor Hall is out of the picture. They literally have no other option. #Oilers - hillbillydeluxe
Hell, if I'm Lucic, I'm wanting OV/Crosby/Malkin/Toews/Kane money for 7 years to play in Edmonton.

I have kept my mouth shut for a long time, as our GM has made some head scratchers over the last while....but with a big smile I hope TO, Mtl and Ed enjoy their "Iron Sheik" treatment.

Thanks. I wonder if we'll ever hear how much Cdn Tire was expecting to kick in, and what services they were hoping for Stamkos to render in exchange? - Carol Schram
i don't think it's a matter of "kicking in."
just a pitch that he would play for "canada's team" (puke but you know they probably said that) and that he would be the national spokesperson for canadian tire for x million (or whatever the going rate for a top spokesman.)
canadian tire would up probably spend the majority of their advertising budget around him.
let's not forget that toronto is the 5th or 6th biggest tv market in north america. they have a lot of money to throw around. it's not great from a western canadian perspective but it is nonetheless true.
Hahaha, get with the times Don, this came out on like my second visit here.
Will say I am a big Habs fan too, then the Nucks are up there. - RonPielep
Yes Ron, I was the one who called you out for being an Oilers fan shortly after you claimed you had no teams and you cheered for hockey in general. It's fine to troll but at least choose a side. That is all, I feel for Oilers fans. Or I am laughing I am not sure yet

lol, I started listening to Iron Sheik on the Howard Stern Show. - hillbillydeluxe
Grew up watching wrasslin/roller derby since the 70's (not so much since the early 2000's). Sheik is awesome, (his twitter is hilarious). His and Luongo's back and forth a few years back is priceless.....
Ours certainly isn't a homerun, we gave up more in terms of picks than we should have, but Mccann was redundant, (possibly) poor in the locker room, and we added a big, tough defenseman, something we have been lacking. We didn't give up anything comparable to one of the best players in the league so I think it's fair to say our deal was much, much better. - NorthNuck
Classic will always hate. I am very happy we were able to pry away EG for Mccann
is not a bad D-corps at all. Still doesn't make me think this trade was any better tho. - RonPielep
It is not a horrible one, much improved from last season, but Vancouvers D is quite a bit better. It will be your offense that makes you guys a bubble team. Your defense will just lose you a few less games next season.

Agreed,
Klef - Larsson
Sekera - Demers

trade in a vacuum sucks.
the oilers' pr will spin it as "lucic, demers and larsson for hall."
the oilers are improved short term and if they improve enough to be playoff contenders, chiarelli is betting people will forget about the hall trade or at least quiet down about it.
I love how you are in here trying to compare Gudbrandson and Larrson while deflecting from the fact that Oilers just made one of the worst trades in the league in the last 20 years. - fiveandagame

yup. they just need a "competent" defense and they should be much improved.

They'll forget about the Hall trade the first time Lucic beats up a fan at a bar.

Yeah you sure called me out. Good thing Marwood has internet tough guys like you here to keep him safe.
But in truth you didn't call poop out, even if it makes you feel tough saying that. I fully admitted the Oil were one of my teams and had recently passed the Habs in terms of my interest in the last few years. I also said that after I started spending more time in the Oil thread that I changed my 'fav team' away from the Habs but also that I removed it because low-level vagrants like you and sensnucksnocups (among others) seem unable to participate in the conversation at hand and choose to devolve the discussion to a 5th grade level of "my team is better than yours" which I am not interested in.
