They traded a bonafide 24 year old 1LW for an OK second pairing 23 year old d man. Larsson still has top prospect shine, but he has not shown anything remotely close to being a top pairing guy.
This is Luke Schenn for JVR, with a better Luke Schenn and a better JVR. Chiarelli just screwed the pooch big time. Edmonton blew a serious forward asset. Maybe their best. - Mononoke
i think there has to be more involved in this deal, no? |

So much right in this post
Because I watch a ton of late-night, West Coast hockey, I have seen a ton of Edmonton games
Hall is easily one of the best forwards in the league. It's not even a question. The only LWs better in the game are Benn and Ovechkin, and he is almost in that same breath. Not quite, but close
Oh, Edmonton. Oh, Edmonton. All those guys they could've traded, and they chose the one guy you need to keep out of that tire fire |

I've mentioned many times that it would be a mistake to trade Brayden Schenn but Taylor Hall is the exception. Schenn doesn't have a deal right now and still a capable player. |

exactly. hall was the keeper. you move RNH and Eberle. id say even if it was for a lesser return, but its not as if they got a massive haul back. larsson is a good young D with some upside, but jesus the (frank) christ. |

Edmonton could've asked for Larsson + 11th + another pick/prospect, and I'd still say it was an ok at best deal for Edmonton.
They need a top pairing guy and traded one of the most valuable young wingers in the league for a #4 d man. Straight. Up. You'd think someone like Shattenkirk or Trouba or someone of that caliber would be a fairer value trade and what they'd be after. 1 FOR 1!!!! |

they had potentially the 2 best lines in hockey with McD on one and Hall on the other
unstoppable speed and skill, you can build a franchise around those two guys

they did need to make moves. but there was 0 reason it should have been hall. his contract is pretty damn decent too. there is just no way to spin this in a positive light for edmonton. is egregiously bad.

Draisaitl-Hall
That's something to build around. Even if you trade Hall, they just made a 1 for 1 for a #4 d man....not the next Seth Jones. |

For sure a bad one, and this may be premature, but let's steal Hall from Devils when he's a free agent after 19-20 season. |

exactly. i dont think he should have ever been the one to go, but if he is, you need to nail it with the return. larsson is not that. i think larsson for RNH would have been a deal with some inherent pros and cons baked in for both sides.
larsson has shown flashes that he can grow into a pretty good guy. but theres nothing that screams first pairing stud about him at this point in time, and he has had a few years. |
