Not sure. What's the point of trading for a guy then if a team doesn't want to resign him or is having difficulty? Just wait and then get him without giving anything up. It'd be more wild west that's for sure.

Now please acknowledge Marchessault as a would-be savvy signing.

Machineassault would be fine.

NBA has no compensation and trades happen all the time. They have the matching salaries problem too.

I just think it's stupid that a player's peak scoring years occur when he's still on rfa years. He should be fairly compensated. I hate this stupid unwritten rule that you're not allowed to OS players.

So Stamkos has basically the same cap hit as Voracek? Splendid

Let it be known that I think the NJ/EDM trade is brutally lopsided just like everyone else.

However...Hall has no help now. That could make it sting less for the Oilers. For Chia's sake.

I don't mind it, but the compensation is way too excessive. 4 1st rounders?! Jesus Christ. Make it 2 or something tops for max salary. If you don't want to sign a guy for x amount, that's YOUR problem he was offer sheeted. I wish they would happen more.

You can buy out UFA years though to cover the peak while they are still in RFA. That's what the smart teams are doing.

That said, I want them to wait to change it until after Boston offer sheets Trouba.

I don't get why teams don't do it. Tampa is one of the best teams in the league and a guy like Kucherov is sitting right there. At least make life difficult for one of your primary contenders.

Like what San Jose did with Hjammer. It was smart -- just didn't work out, though they got what they wanted second: getting Niemi to FA. Or Calgary with O'Reilly on Colorado.

There is something to be said that you don't want to sour relationships. Whether or not GMs should be so sensitive...they are. I'm fully on board with Operation Trayden Sheet though. Primary objective: Kucherov. Secondary objective: Palat.

J35jackass put together better trade proposals for Yak than Edmonton got for Hall and those proposals were retarded, at best

Theres no way Tampa can afford to keep all these (frank)ers. Kucherov, Palat, Johnson, Hedman and Vas are all due for extensions within the next 2 years.

GMs should stop being such cowards and accept that this is a business. It's what they tell all the players each time they trade them or demote them.

They went pretty forward heavy with their top picks this year: Howden as a future 3C perhaps, Katchouk as a middle 6 LW, Raddysh as a middle 6 RW. Drouin will become a top 6/line fixture. Someone like Brayden Point could come on strong too after AHL time.

I think Yzerman sees the writing on the wall. I think one of Johnson, Palat, or Namestnikov (even Drouin still) could be shopped. They will do whatever to sign Kucherov...probably Johnson second. But Namest scored at a similar rate to Kucherov this past season, his first full one. He also put up the best possession stats on the entire team. But he's a center, so not sure we'd be interested. That team is littered with too much talent to fit. I really don't see why they would trade for Schenn. Their whole issue is working the cap. They want young players on cheap deals and certainly not another expansion eligible. Someone like Morin, not eligible and cheap, might be up their alley.

Looking more into this, they are kind of (frank)ed with Callahan and Filppula having NMCs. Add in Stamkos, but he's obviously kept if he didn't have one. They are a team that screams 8-1 option for expansion. They only need to protect Hedman and Stralman -- the rest is whatever.

But that leaves Johnson, Kucherov, Palat, Namestnikov, Drouin all needing protection. They can choose 3. Besides their cap situation, which is not good, they desperately desperately need to unload someone like Filppula with his bad hit and NMC. A team with cap space could both help them and (frank) them over.

It's part of the reason I expected them to deal bishop. But the true problem does begin next year. Maybe they just trade stamkos next year haha. Callahan and fillpula are the go to "trade for peanuts" guys right now.

Callahan is immovable. Filppula is the more likely, and they'd have to give up something good to move him. Both contracts are ugly. One just happens to have only 2 years left. They also both possess NMCs, so the team taking them on has to be OK with that. It's a mess. They were iffy contracts right from the start. It's why you don't go crazy with contracts to these types of players. Bishop needs to be moved too, but as a goalie, that's a separate issue.

Ghost for Hall? Would you have done it?
- Tomahawk

No, because of the age -- Ghost is too young and (likely) prolific.

That's not overvaluing Ghost; it's a cap world. Hall at $6 million is a luxury. Ghost on an ELC is damn near a necessity when you consider his likely production

Bergevin seemed dead set tho... doubling down on Therrien and all.

God, NHL GMs are stupid.

I said when they extended Callahan that they would rue the day they did it, and that was before Kucherov was flat-out amazing

I think Killorn should a prime target. He has size (6'2- 2 bills), decent offense and sandpaper. Given EVERYONE else Tampa has to lock down... you could probably offer a fairly reasonable contract that wont cost you a ton of draft picks if they don't match.

You play him on the Giroux line until some of the kids are ready and then he could naturally slot down if necessary later.
