Already one team exec is on record stating that they werent made aware Hall was available. They would've packaged two 1st's and a 2nd pair D man as a starting point.

I can't believe this. Chia is going to literally get run out of that town.

- hereticpride

Im calling bs on that one, everyone knew every forward with the exception of Mcdavid was available. If you're a GM thats that even sniffs a player is available you call, just cant imagine Chia not doing his diligence. Im in the same boat as everyone, he didn't get value for the player.

I think there are a lot of factors to the deal, if real set on RHD that was one. Getting a player back that young, upside and had term on deal surely had lots to do with that. Also Im betting teams wanted some form of D prospect back on a deal, Oilers already being thin on them probably didnt want to cough one up.

I disagree. The Subban contract is a better one for one simple reason that you're overlooking. The Subban deal is over when he's 32, so Nashville is getting more prime years out of the contract. That is well worth the additional salary, and the added cap space. They are taking on less of a risk with the contract, then Montreal is. Cap recapture is also an issue. Subban's deal is the better contract at this point. No doubt, in my opinion
- MJL

Wrong. I said Length was a win so I didn't over look anything.

The Cap recapture is all on Nashville's back so that's still a contract loss for the preds.

Although we can't guarantee any of them will develop as hope, this illustrates how even more valuable the Flyers defense prospects are. Chiarelli needed to add defense, and Hall was the price he had to pay, for Larsson. Imagine the cost for a legitimate top pairing early 20's stud defenseman? He was willing to be raked over, to add a need. Not sure if you were willing to move Hall, why you wouldn't talk to every single team before making that deal.
- MJL

Yea but none of our prospects have played a shift (minus ghost) in the nhl.

Friday should be fun. With the Stamkos hoopla done, teams will be after the 2nd tier guys now.

If Lucic is off the table looks like Okposo is the flag bearer.

Hextall signs Lucic just to spite Edmonton. Hexy finally gets his revenge.

Does Chiarelli have some kind of allergy to young star forwards?
- MJL

I wouldn't want to be the guy who traded Hall and Seguin with 2 different teams before they've reached their potential. Same draft year too. 1 and 2.

It is going to be interesting. I want to see what the term and money will be for guys like Eric Staal, Milan Lucic, and Andrew Ladd.

I read on TSN, last night or this morning that Matt Martin was asking for 4 years/12million. Yeah.

I don't expect the Flyers to be very active in this market. I would not be surprised to see them go bargain hunting after the teams spending to the cap have already done so.

If Edmonton needed a defender so bad I would have done Macdonald for yakupov.
- J35Bacher

Yachupov for MacDonald and a package of some sort doesn't sound all that crazy to me.

I have interest in Martin but the guy has never scored more than 10 goals or a had more than 20 points in a season.

Staal is interesting but depends which Eric Staal your gonna get.

Yeah, I was watching him towards the end of the season thinking that he'd add some size and toughness... but at 3mil/year-ish? Thank you no. I can live with Ryan White.

In NHL 16 tonight, I offered the Oilers Larsson, 2016, 17, 18, and 19' 1st round picks for Taylor Hall and they still said no. And yes I took the time to do this.

I think you are, if you don't think it's a better contract.

You're right about Nashville with the recapture issue. Montreal shares a slight risk if he retires before 34, but that's highly unlikely.

I don't think most GM's are concerned about Cap recapture. They're far more concerned about now. They figure by the time recapture cap issues happen, they probably won't be the GM.

Which is why I said we can't guarantee they'll develop as hoped. The Edmonton deal showed that if you want to have a good defense, better be drafting and developing it.

AI Chiarelli drives a harder bargain than IRL Chiarelli.

I kept telling myself , " ok this HAS to get he deal done this time." And each 1st added it didn't haha. I can't even offer anything else because there's no more spaces to add a player/asset to the offer

There will be another CBA negotiation before Weber retires too so who knows what will happen X years from now.

I like PK a lot, but Weber might be more of a calming force in Montreal much like Pronger was for Philly in 2010. Weber to me is a much more mature player and Montreal can't seem to get over the hump in the playoffs. I think TODAY this deal will help Montreal tremendously. Jmo.

It was nice to see hockey trades today.... offensive player to NJ and Defense to Edm. D for D in the other deal. Stammer signing in TB is good for TB. Great cap hit for them too.

If Stamkos dies, or his career ends due to not receiving medical clearance, the Bolts are on the hook for the full contract?

Factor in the state taxes and the difference is a little more palatable. Its a 10 million contract in PA.
