I'm not going to touch the first one. That can stand on it's own.

Can you imagine what Nashville is going to look like with Subban tooling around their blue line in Lavy's system? If they get goaltending bounce back next season I think they're the prohibitive favourite right now to win that division. That's saying something.

- mayorofangrytown

I mentioned that on twitter. Subban under Laviolette will be a lot of fun to watch. They could dominate possession with that D.

The worries I have if I was Montreal are:
1. The decline already apparent in Weber's game. He's still an elite offensive defenseman, but he looks like he's lost a step and he's still prone to losing position to throw a big hit. He's bad at shot suppression and the possession numbers are mediocre.

2. They don't have a Suter or Josi to be his partner. Certainly Weber helped those guys, but they also provided help to Weber while they were his partner. He doesn't have that on the Habs

3. That contract. That's a long, long deal left. Salary wise, it's not that bad, but vs the cap, there's a very real possibility Weber isn't worth near his cap hit within 4-5 years.

Weber is a better player now, and before, than Souray ever was. Weber is much better now, than some are saying he is.

I guess you could hang on the comparison forever if you want to, but the point was that Weber's probably in for a steep decline in the near future. PK not so much.

All that crap about nashville never trading weber...

If you were offered a younger, equal, if not better player for Weber, with a better contract, would you not make the deal?

Your telling me hall couldn't get dumba or Brolin or maybe trouba? Just feel they didn't get enough and will now replace hall with 6million a season for lucic.
- J35Bacher

Chiarelli stressed getting a righty shooting D, so that eliminates Brodin. As for Dumba, my guess is they preferred Larsson's potential to his.

That remains to be seen, certainly possible. It's also possible that Weber remains the top pairing defenseman that he currently is for a significant number of years.

All Morin has to do is make it to the NHL and put up like 15 points as a second pair guy and we can get Puljujarvi

I guess. I wouldn't be thrilled if I was an oiler fan. You would think hall could get you a little more then a 2nd pairing dman.

Schenn for Sam Bennett? Is that the value these days.

True. But would you be thirlled with Dumba or Brodin for him, instead of Larsson?

Probably not but would feel better. Before this season Larsson struggled and was in Albany for a while.

I wonder what kind of offers they got for him... The blood clots didn't help I'm sure... Damn i still say massive overpayment for our duo of 8 mill players.
- JoeRussomanno

If G is healthy and gets a better winger than Raffl (jebus) he could easily be worth his contract. Voracheck is at least a mil over value IMO. Not the kiss of death but a little cringe worthy after his most recent season.

Dumba has had his struggles, as has Brodin. None of them are worth Hall, IMO

I'd be less worried about Weber and more worried about packing up Bergevin and Therrien for those shiny new dock worker jobs in Port Huron.

1,2,3 are more than just viable concerns. Those are the basic facts that should bring the house down.

Holy cow. If Weber retires early, nashville could be walloped.

It's a shorter contract but not a better one. The length is a win but they already paid the bulk of the Weber deal so they won't be garnering the monetary savings that the front loaded contract was going to bring them plus the cap hit is almost two mil higher so they lost there too.

The trade was a no brainer but not because of any contract situation. Nashville will be paying a lot more actual money and losing space on the cap.

A $25m cap penalty would be a lot, even under a $100m cap.

I disagree. The Subban contract is a better one for one simple reason that you're overlooking. The Subban deal is over when he's 32, so Nashville is getting more prime years out of the contract. That is well worth the additional salary, and the added cap space. They are taking on less of a risk with the contract, then Montreal is. Cap recapture is also an issue. Subban's deal is the better contract at this point. No doubt, in my opinion

Who was that Oiler fan who used to come in here busting our chops about Hexy not doing anything, always asking us if we were happy with the rebuild? Jeropotato or something? I wonder what no good he's up to these days?
